Und wie immer gilt: „When the flag drops, the bullshit stops“

Das Bernina Gran Turismo® Team
Dear friends of the Bernina Hillclimb Race in Graubuenden - Bernina Gran Turismo®,

Our 2019 registrations are developing very fast. There are nice vehicles and exciting drivers for BGT 2019 already. We encourage the undecided to get in touch with us as soon as possible; there are a lot of additional registrations arriving and we would hate to loose one of our regulars & friends due to an overfull starting list.

Especially we would like to call the racers with historical formula cars. We know about the efforts of start and equipment, but we like to do everything to make it as pleasant as possible for you. Don't forget, the track is even suitable for historic Formula 1 cars!

We are also looking forward to the pre-war cars - 90 years after the first event, the cars from "back then" should not be neglected either.

"Back then" is a good catchword. In recent times we came across a curiosity in some conversations with very honorable and important people from the Swiss scene:
Whatever the reason, the scene still seems to be haunted by the opinion that the Bernina Gran Turismo® is not "Swiss" enough. We can only speculate that a certain misreport from the past has somehow taken hold here: In the mid 2000s, an attempt had already been made to re-start the Bernina race. For various reasons, this did not happen at the time, although the organization had German media and external consultants at the time, who perhaps had not always worked with the necessary sensitivity on the ground.
Today, Bernina Gran Turismo® is run as a Swiss incorporated company by an international team of professionals from the field of historical racing events. Only the very close cooperation with the Graubuenden municipalities as well as the local, cantonal and national Swiss politics, which thankfully supports us strongly, makes such a complex event possible.

"An international race on Swiss soil" has always been the goal. So, the Swiss pilots and collectors in particular, are invited to enjoy the race together with the guests from all over the world. To date we have had starters from over 25 nations and we are just as proud of those as we are of all our friends who come to us from the Engadine or Puschlav.

Perhaps it should be added that last year, as some already know, we erected more than one kilometer of additional permanent crash barriers at the Bernina Pass. This means more safety of the highest standard - even for the normal traffic that travels over the Bernina Pass year in, year out. As a small detail of the economic relevance, over 80% of our sales go to the local and Swiss economy.
The Bernina Gran Turismo® sees itself as a "racing family", where on one weekend the a wide variety of different people come together to enjoy their hobbies. Smart-casual, sophisticated, concentrated and with great pleasure at the track, organization and hopefully also at the organizer team.

Comradeship as it was common in the early days of racing always reappears during the Bernina weekend. People enjoy an extraordinary get-together with historic racing cars in the surroundings of the magnificent natural landscape of the Engadine.

Embedded in the event framework of St. Moritz, which is an important partner, host and supporter for us not only at the start of the event and in Posciavo for the award ceremony, we feel part of the Swiss event calendar.
We ask all those who still have questions in this regard to address them to us at any time.

In this context we would like to mention that the team member Marco Makaus has left the event organization by mutual request. We wish Marco all the best for his new projects and are sure that we will see him again at the track.

We are especially happy that you follow us so faithfully and attentively in the social media. We hope to give you a good insight into the Bernina Gran Turismo® atmosphere.

We wish you all a good start into the 2019 racing season! And as always, "When the flag drops, the bullshit stops."
