ACCELERATING GLOBAL PROGRESS IN OPEN EDUCATION
28th ICDE World Conference Update
We are pleased to report that, by today 23 April, we have received almost 600 paper submissions. This is a great response to what is undoubtedly one of the most prestigious international conferences in our field, and the number of submissions bodes well for a large gathering in Dublin of many of the world’s leading educators, researchers and policy-makers. And you still have until midnight (GMT) on Friday 3 May to submit your paper to help shape the future of new models of Open and Online Education in the digital-era.

The other good news is that later today on 23 April we will be sending out all of the remaining notification emails to authors with news of whether your paper has been accepted for presentation at the World Conference. The selection criteria for papers appears on the World Conference website. Our International Review Panel has even worked over the Easter holiday weekend to assure the quality of papers, ensure that you receive valuable feedback on your submission, and that we get this news out to you well before the Early Bird Registration date. If you need to apply for a Visa then you will find further information on our website,

Also please note there is still time to apply for one of the five “Learning Transformation Scholarships” to help you attend this year's ICDE World Conference. The closing date for applications is Friday 3 May.

On other conference news this week the local Dublin team will be busy selecting our special “Taste of Ireland’ performing acts that will help start each day of the conference and make special appearances throughout the event. Another highlight that will feature the best of Irish culture will be our Gala Dinner (Ceiliúradh na Comhdhála), which will be held in the historic Mansion House. This was the seat of the first Irish modern-day parliament and the Gala Dinner should be quite an experience. And finally to tempt you further here are seven reasons to visit Dublin for the ICDE World Conference:
  1. Visit the Guinness Storehouse and taste the famous black velvet
  2. Experience the craic of Temple Bar, which is a vibrant part of the city
  3. Arrive before the conference to attend the famous Bram Stoker Festival
  4. Take a ride on the Viking Duck Splash Bus for a fun activity and great way to see Dublin
  5. Spend a few hours in the Chester Beatty Library where you will find one of the most significant collections of Islamic books and artefacts
  6. Venture further afield and explore scenic Howth or visit the Wicklow mountains
  7. And of course participate in a leading international conference and network with other educators and researchers from around the world
