CONFIRMATION 2019
Celebrating our Confirmands

On Sunday, May 12, we will celebrate and send off our confirmands! During the 9:30 liturgy, we will joyfully surround and pray for them as they prepare to be confirmed or received at Cathedral Day on Saturday, May 18 at St. Mark's. Olivia Vessenes, one of our youth confirmands, will preach at both liturgies. We'll also hear from a few other youth and adult confirmands at 9:30.

I am delighted for all of us to to hear the voices of our confirmands, with whom I’ve been praying, learning, and reflecting since February. Come on May 12 to listen to, pray for, and give thanks for these courageous and hopeful women and men!

Grace adults, no matter what your gifts are, we need you to make our Grace summer camps a success.

Our camp theme this year is "God's Good World," and we'll be packing six colorful days of genesis into a week of creativity, discovery, and fun.  Twice! Once at Grace (July 9-12), and then again in Mount Vernon at Camp Resurrección (July 14-19).

If you're interested in collaborating in any role at either or both camps, please:
  • Sign up on the list in Walker Hall (or email Kim).
  • Join us for a brief introductory meeting at 11:30 am Sunday, May 5 in the Wayfarer's Classroom.
Thank you!
FAITH FORMATION
Introducing the Grace Faith Formation Committee

It's a privilege to work as the Minister of Faith Formation here at Grace, and I don't do this amazing work alone! Did you know that there is a Faith Formation Committee? These are folks who have agreed to seek to meet, lead, shape content, and walk alongside our fellow pilgrims of all ages. They come from many different backgrounds; their hope is to create content that nurtures, challenges, connects, and reflects God’s work at Grace and in the world.  They did a wonderful job collaborating to make our Lenten series so lovely!

If you have a question, idea, or insight about faith formation at Grace, please talk or write to these committee members:

IN MEMORIAM
Memorial Service for Roberta Schaffer

Sunday, April 28 | 4 pm at Grace
A memorial service for Roberta Schaffer will be held this Sunday at Grace. Roberta died on November 21, 2018, of cancer.

The service will include pianist Sam Brodsky playing Mozart, a eulogy by the Rev. Dick Middleton, followed by a reception in Walker Hall. All are welcome.

Roberta was known for her elegance, her keen desire to cultivate friendships, and her empathy. She worked for many years as a public school guidance counselor in the Puget Sound area — a career that made her a passionate advocate for youth. She loved to travel; any excursion sparked her enthusiasm.

Roberta became an accomplished abstract painter and taught art on Bainbridge and in Poulsbo. She had a joyful, adventurous spirit that sustained her during difficult times. Her friends and family miss their conversations with Roberta that almost always included, even in her last days, gaiety and laughter.
OUTREACH
Mom's Morning Retreat: Looking In and Giving Back

Twice a month, nearly 40 women with children of all ages come together at Grace for Mom's Morning Retreat.

At a recent gathering, women were invited to walk the grounds alone and in stillness. Back inside, they made arrows, each a symbol of family, courage, dreams ...
They also enjoyed a used children's clothing swap, with the extras going to Kitsap Immigrant Assistance Center.

Thank you to Grace for welcoming and supporting moms from our community.  Join us on 1st and 3rd Thursdays, 9:30-11:00 am, at Grace.
Excerpt from "On Children" by Kahlil Gibran

"You are the bows from which your children
as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite,
and He bends you with His might
that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
so He loves also the bow that is stable."
