Dear Friends,

It's been a long time since I updated you on the new Gathering Sparks CD. We had planned on a spring release, but that has been delayed—for a VERY GOOD reason! Drum roll, please... We're excited to announce that our CD will be coming out with Borealis Records in October.

Borealis is a label near and dear to my heart since I was their first office manager, and several of my solo CDs were also released on Borealis. The label is run by some wonderful people who genuinely care about the music they release. Having their support will be a huge boost in helping us get our music out into the world, so we are beyond pleased to be working with them.

If you contributed to our crowdfunding campaign, you will receive your copies well before the fall.  The album has been mastered, and we are finalizing the design (see below for a reveal of the cover & title) so we're getting close to having CDs in hand.

Our big CD release concerts will be in Toronto on October 3rd (Hugh's Room) and in Guelph on October 5th (Trinity United Church). We'd love to have you celebrate this milestone with us, so mark your calendars! We are planning additional release shows in Niagara, Kingston, London...TBA.

In the more immediate future, we are gearing up for our monthly Singalong Soirée in Toronto and Elora, coming up this weekend, there are still spots left in my summer ukulele classes in Haliburton, and the Ukulele Orchestra will be performing on May 11 here in Toronto.

That's the news for this month. I hope to cross paths with you sometime soon, but until then, keep singing!

A Few of My Favourite Things

Stand Up For Ontario
Last newsletter I posted an item about campus and community radio, just one small example of how the Conservative Government's policies will be harmful to all Ontarians. The cuts are coming fast and furious now and it feels overwhelming-- it's hard to know where to start. Slashes to healthcare, libraries, education, social services, and on it goes. You name it, it's on the chopping block. It's important that we all do what we can to stand up for ourselves and our neighbours. In addition to all the petitions circulating, there are two events coming next week: April 30 there will be a rally to oppose cuts to health care and on May 1 there will be a general strike against Ford. I will be doing my best to be at one or both of these events, I hope some of you can be there too.

Si Kahn Turns 75!
Si Kahn is a true legend of the folk world, composer of many classic songs that have been recorded by scores of other artists. For decades he's also been a diehard activist and organizer working on civil rights, anti-poverty, prison, environmental, and union issues as well as training other activists across the southern U.S. Most recently he's been campaigning to stop the Pebble Mine in Alaska. He has written several musical theatre pieces and continues to perform and work all over North America. Here he is singing one of his most well-known songs, "Aragon Mill." Happy Birthday Si!
