Ohai! It's been a while. I don't have an excuse, really, I guess I've just been busy. But I haven't stopped thinking of you. This edition comes a couple months after returning from a retreat in Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 and, oh hey, what a coincidence, there's a Sri Lankan artist in this mix. Speaking of Sri Lanka...extremists suck. Having visited that beautiful country, it pains me to hear the reports of the terrorist suicide bombings over the weekend. Everyone I met there was truly kind and compassionate and eager to share their culture and I have a special place in my heart for them. ✊ Solidarity and all that.
This edition is a bit all over the place, as I've been a bit all over the place lately. But hopefully it brings some empathy to your gloomy days. I see you.
Side thing: You may or may not know that I've been doing a podcast for about a year with two of my favorite people. We took a brief break but we've been back at it. Check out season two on our website or on iTunes/Google Play.
Other side thing: Last time, I mentioned my goal of gender equilibrium in these playlists. Now, by my very generous ranking standards (e.g. classifying an artist as "female" if there's a femail vocalist/frontwoman) and with the understanding that we're still not at gender parity with M/F/n on-binary, I'm happy to announce that the dudes make up almost exactly 50% of all songs across all Sad Bastard playlists. This was far more skewed when I started looking at it, so I'm really happy that the ship is starting to right itself. Next step is full parity (inasmuch as is possible with binary gender distinctions). 🎉
