Project Update | Community Outreach

Our community outreach program has developed into a rich and important part of our work. It's through our funding from the Province of British Columbia's Community Gaming Grant that we are able to share our passion for the environment with our community. From educational interpretive walks to community events like our annual Broom Bash, this program gives people the opportunity to learn about the ecosystem that they are a part of, to share the experience with others, and to be active stewards.

We have hosted some great events this year, including birding walks and willow staking work parties. Stay tuned as we announce more walks throughout the summer! Want the latest news as we have it? Find us on Facebook, or visit the Events section on our website!

Food Atlas

Have you taken a look at The Food Atlas recently? Launched in 2018, this map is a community-driven tool for empowering communities to develop and plan around food security resources. The Food Atlas:

Builds relationships: Local people, institutions, and organizations can connect with others with similar goals.

Builds community: Food-focused programs and services (like food banks, community gardens, and skills classes) can connect with those who can support and promote their work.

Builds capacity: Uncover services, talents, skills, and resources found in the community right now, also identifying gaps in service—invaluable for attracting project funding.

Get involved now: Food Atlas is an initiative of the Island Food Security Hub collective—it is supported in partnership with Island Health and PHABC.
