2019 STATE OF DOWNTOWN PITTSBURGH REPORT

Last week, the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership released our 2019 State of Downtown Pittsburgh report. The eighth annual publication provides a comprehensive look at economic indicators across six sectors in Downtown Pittsburgh, as well as comparisons to peer Central Business Districts. The report allows trends to be identified, as well as opportunities for the PDP to focus resources to support the changing Downtown landscape.

“As we have produced this report for eight years, we continue to find that it provides us with valuable insight into development trends in Downtown,” said Jeremy Waldrup, President and CEO of the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership. “With 31 projects under construction representing new residential units, new hotels, and commercial redevelopment valued at $1.2 billion, we will continue to see significant growth in the heart of our city.”

Coneman Tip of the Week: Grant Street Closures

With warmer weather here to stay, construction season has been gearing up over the last month. In and around Downtown, there are a number of construction and redevelopment projects taking place and many more expected to be underway over the next year in the Central Business District, Uptown, the Lower Hill District, the North Shore, and South Shore. On the list of these construction projects is the multi-year Grant Street rebuilding project, with construction beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, May 6 and continuing until Wednesday, July 3, to repair and replace the brick street and replace damaged portions of the concrete subbase. This project is part of the city’s $20 million street resurfacing budget tied to fiscal year 2019 (also stay tuned for an upcoming tip on this!). Bi-directional motor vehicle traffic will be provided one single lane in each direction on the southbound side of Grant Street, with no left turn lanes. Two-way traffic will be maintained on the inbound lanes of Grant Street.

Important note to transit users: A total of fifteen Port Authority routes and additional regional transit routes will be impacted by the resulting road closures and A. Meranti Construction will be closing both northbound lanes of Grant Street, between Seventh Avenue and the intersection containing Liberty Avenue and Port Authority’s MLK Busway.

Additional questions and inquiries can be made to Eric Setzler, the Chief Engineer, at 412-477-6066.
