Two weeks ago I said I was going to create one piece of art for the next 100 days. And I haven't done that. First I missed one day then made it up the next day. Then I missed three days, and then made those all up. And now it's been five or six days. It's a slippery slope. In the final days of my 365 lists project, I was about 50 lists behind hahaha. It's a lovely reminder that this is practice (that's why it's called an art practice). Practice of letting go, practice of feeling, practice of being.
Last week I sold a BUNCH of art and a bunch of my 365 Lists book! And I feel a renewed sense of excitement that people like my art and that they relate to it and that it makes them laugh and cry and ponder their existence on this planet. I hope that they share my work with friends and strangers and realize that we are all much more similar than we are different. Because I sold so many books I'm now out of my last run of books that I printed! Should I print another run? Would you buy one or do you know someone who would dig it? Vote below!
Last week I also got to co-lead a workshop with my friends and artists Samuel Cortez and Lizzy Brooks at Lick High School, where they teach. The school was hosting a two-day long series on social justice. There were workshops, meditations, and conversations. It was so cool! I wish we had things like that at my high school. It was so inspiring to see the energy of the kids and how quickly they got to creating interactive installations around their school campus that added joy, positive messaging, and more. So much to learn from them.
I love working with youth and am seeking to do more of it! Typically, I present my work and then we get the kids to think about something that they want to address and we go out and make stuff in public spaces. It's a great way for kids to see how they can impact their world quickly. Do you know of a school or group of youth that might be interested?
