Bring the whole family and join us for Bible study and worship this Lord's Day!

The 119nth Psalm is the longest Psalm in the Book of Psalms and is the longest section in the Bible, having more verses than 17 Old Testament books and 14 New Testament books. The Psalm is divided into twenty-two sections. Each of the twenty-two sections provide eight statements regarding the nature of the word of God, each of those statements beginning with the same corresponding Hebrew letter of the Hebrew alphabet, first aleph, then beth, then gimel, then daleth, and so on until the whole alphabet is represented. Let us notice at least one statement out of each of these twenty-two sections on the nature and importance of the word of God.

Psalm 119:4 – Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently. Living for God half-heartedly is not an option. We are commanded to diligently keep His precepts. He that cometh to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those that “diligently” seek Him (Heb. 11:6). . . .

Digital Library

The Mt. Vernon Church of Christ is building a digital library to aid serious Bible students in their study.  When possible, we will be adding new volumes.  We are grateful to the many sources from which we draw these volumes for making these available.  We take no credit for them ourselves.  We do not necesarrily endorse everything in every volume.  We simply provide them as aids to Bible study.  This week:

Faith and Reason - Dick Sztanyo

Warren - Ballard Debate

The question is sometimes raised, “Can a Christian have spiritual fellowship with anyone?” By asking that, the person is wanting to know if there are any boundaries to fellowship or does God allow Christians to participate in spiritual endeavors with anyone. When the question is posed in more detail, it typically centers around matters of worship and joint participation in good works. “Can a Christian worship with any group, even if that group does not abide in the doctrine of Jesus Christ?” “Can a Christian join in with any group in mission or benevolent efforts, even if that group’s existence is not authorized by the Lord in the New Testament?” These are questions that are worthy of answers.

As seen in I John 1:3, the fellowship of which God approves is triangular in nature. John wrote, “That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.” If we were to draw out this triangle, we would see John (himself a faithful Christian) in the lower left corner, his readers (other faithful Christians) in the lower right corner and the Lord at the apex. This is true fellowship that is recognized by God. If either of the human parties at the bottom were to break the lines going toward God by virtue of disobedience to Him, the triangle would cease to be fully connected and, of necessity, the line between those two human parties would have to break for it to be Biblical fellowship. Golden Thought

If God is your co-pilot, switch seats!

THE TWO COFFINS

In yonder old cathedral
Two lovely coffins lie;
In one, the head of the state lies dead,
And a singer sleeps hard by.

Once had that King great power
And proudly ruled the land —
His crown e’en now is on his brow
And his sword is in his hand.

How sweetly sleeps the singer
With calmly folded eyes,
And on the breast of the bard at rest
The harp that he sounded lies.

The castle walls are falling
And war distracts the land,
But the sword leaps not from that mildewed spot
There in that dead king’s hand.

But with every grace of nature
There seems to float along —
To cheer again the hearts of men —
The singer’s deathless song

Bible Question of the Week
(All questions come from the Scripture readings.)

What is it that converts the soul?

LAST WEEK'S QUESTION AND ANSWER
Of what were the apostles eyewitnesses in the Holy Mount?

ANSWER:
II Peter 1:16-18 - For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
