Dear members,

I trust this update finds you happy with the past Summer season! From most accounts it has been a great summer given the exceptional weather experienced across the country. Seasons like these accrue great return or repeat business as people get out and use their boats more and look to repeat the experiences just had. Look forward to another cracker this coming summer!

This email covers a quick update on matters under discussion with your Executive or are information items which I hope you find valuable. Please make use of your closest Executive Member. We are all willing and able to assist with general enquiries or just to support you where needed. All the best.

Our Australian counterpart the Marinas Industry Association is running its Conference on 27-28 May at SeaWorld on the Gold Coast. We are aware that there are a number of members heading over and it will be great to see some of you there looking at developments and issues current over the ditch. Check out their website for registration or just to review the content of the Conference.

NZMOA AGM and Conference

The dates for this year's event are 4-6 September 2019 and will be hosted by Northland. Venues will include Whangarei and the Bay of Islands. This will also include the Marina of the Year event so please stay tuned on the launch of this year’s criteria which will be emailed to you shortly.
Regional consultation: marine biosecurity

This topic continues to evolve and now encompasses consultation by the four Northern regional authorities (Auckland Council, Environment Bay of Plenty, Environment Waikato and the Northland Regional Council) on management rules that are consistent across all four regions. Please read this material and submit your views before 24 May by clicking here. While this may not be a national issue quite yet it is certainly heading that way and your Executive is currently looking at what a submission might look like from our industry’s perspective. If you have any strong views please do send these to your Executive or to chairman@nzmoa.com.
Clean Marinas review

A review is pending on the standards expected for attaining the status of Clean Marina – this affects a number who have a pending audit. For those who are keen to be accredited  under the revised program we will have this out very shortly once final sign-off has been given by our Executive following their meeting this June.

The Boatyard and Administration Forums are being run again and this time on consecutive days to allow some people to attend both without incurring additional travel. Both are being held in Auckland at the Ponsonby Cruising Club, Westhaven Marina. Please register your attendance via the email recently sent which also seeks to include any additional agenda items for the moderators to cover on the day.

Boatyard Courses

Four courses, attended by 24 people, have now been held at various locations around the country and three have completed their logs and are waiting for certification. The feedback has been excellent and chief trainer Darryl Smith has been pleased with interest from staff across the industry. We are able to hold these courses anywhere so if you have staff to be trained in Boatyard Operations then please email NZMOA Secretary - Phil Wardale philip.wardale@nzmoa.com.
Professional Development - AMM course

This course is programmed to be run in New Zealand for the first time on the 14th – 17 of July in Auckland. For those of you have completed the Intermediate Marina Managers Course we encourage you to take up the opportunity of the course being run here. There would be a significant saving in travel and possibly accommodation for your employer so if you are thinking of advancing your skills and career please register at education@marinas.net.au or visit the website at www.marinas.net.au.
National Certificate in Marina Facilities - Marina Operations, Boatyard Operations Qualification

There has been a surge in interest in this program of professional development developed by your Executive in conjunction with NZMACITO. This NZQA endorsed program of study is very relevant to all or staff and I would encourage you to consider this course which can be self-managed over a two year period. If you are keen please contact your local NZMarine representative or review the course on www.nzmacito.rg.nz.
