This half-day course will help develop essential cross-cultural communication skills, both listening and speaking, while increasing understanding of how culture affects everyday business. Participants will critically examine how today’s business, political and social environments increase the need for cultural and communication competency in order to be successful with international colleagues, both at home and overseas. A goal is to increase your ability to understand and effectively interact with international partners and clients by helping you learn about the impact of culture on international business and build skills for communicating across cultural differences.

Hundreds of thousands of people of Uyghur and Kazakh descent are being held indefinitely in extra-judicial internment camps in Xinjiang today. Prisoners are detained due to their ethnicity or Muslim faith, tearing apart families, destroying lives, and threatening culture. These are horrific developments that should have no place in the twenty-first century. CMES is joining The Xinjiang Initiative's global solidarity event.

Iranian revolution came to fruition on February 11, 1979, when the national radio formally announced its victory. The victory day arrived after some 18 months of nationwide protests that toppled the old-standing autocratic regime of the Shah, leading to the establishment of the first Islamic Republic. Dr. Asef Bayat, acclaimed author and Professor of Sociology at University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, will conclude where the struggle for democracy lies.

Meet the Middle East (MTME) is a Denver-based nonprofit who brings people of the U.S. and the Middle East together through education, travel, and business.
Among their offerings are immersion trips to the Middle East, educational classes for youth to adult learners, academic presentations, and cultural offerings. Meet the Middle East also encourages business interactions, congregates authentic media and voices from the region, and strives to educate and unite diverse populations.
MTME and many others believe a new era is emerging in the Middle East, and with it, a new chance for peace and interaction between the people of the Middle East and the West. In an age of high technology that includes social media, a new kind of citizen has also emerged in the region, one that is informed, connected, and ready for change.
