After decades of hard-fought gains to reduce malaria-related illness and deaths, progress is leveling off, and in some countries, malaria is on the rise.
Governments must respond swiftly. In Nigeria, Malawi, Madagascar, and Benin, where malaria prevalence remains high, MSH is working with national malaria control programs, donors, and other partners to strengthen health systems to defeat this age-old disease.
Leading up to World Malaria Day, we asked Dr. Hortense Kossou in Benin to reflect on important progress made against malaria in her home country, current challenges, and efforts to scale-up a seasonal malaria chemoprevention campaign, an intervention proven to significantly reduce malaria mortality.
