The Center for Childhood Resilience at Lurie Children's Hospital is partnering with Chicago Children's Theatre to provide educators, parents, caregivers, cast and crew with a trauma-informed perspective for the upcoming production of “The Watson’s Go to Birmingham - 1963." Through cast and crew trainings, educator materials, and trauma-informed resources, CCR is building the capacity of adults who work with or care for children, to process the traumatic events that take place in the play and create a safe space for guided discussion.
On Saturday, April 27th, student audience members will be invited to attend a half-hour long “Talk Back” session following the performance. This trauma-focused “Talk Back” session will offer youth the opportunity to both share reactions and collaboratively process the stressful experiences of the Watson family. CCR’s team of mental health professionals will provide education and support around normal reactions to stress and trauma, particularly among children and adolescents.

ICOY is excited to announce a series of trainings we will be offering to Chicago providers on trauma and mental health during the months of May and June. ICOY is able to provide these trainings free of charge to participants thanks to our work with the Chicago Local Area Network Coalition, a group of organizations working to reduce violence on Chicago's south side.
These trainings are open to any individual working with youth on the Chicago's South Side (including social service providers, law-enforcement, teachers, etc.) Each training has a maximum of 25 participants. Provided there is room, we will open trainings to those working with youth elsewhere in the Chicagoland area the week before the training event.

Friends and Colleagues,
Spanish-Speaking Volunteers are Needed to welcome recently released migrants arriving to the Chicago-land area. Detained families and individuals, mainly from Central America, with credible cases of persecution are admitted into the U.S. to await the outcome of their asylum application. Asylees are without winter clothes, food or information on how navigate ground transportation. Chicago Immigration Transit Assistance (CITA) has distributed food, winter clothes, provided phone calls, translation services and other immediate needs.
Please contact Karina Lopez at ICIRR (Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights) to receive training and for further information: klopez@icirr.org.

About the 2019 Pediatric Webinar Series
A collaboration between Children's Hospice and Palliative Care Coalition (a division of Coalition for Compassionate Care of California), Pennsylvania's Pediatric Palliative Care Coalition (PPCC) and Greater Illinois Pediatric Palliative Care Coalition (GIPPCC), the 2019 Pediatric Webinar Series was created to raise the visibility of pediatric palliative care in the United States and to build clinicians' competencies and confidence in providing care to children.
Pediatric Palliative Care Coalitions are dedicated to advancing access to quality pediatric palliative care and bereavement support through education, advocacy, research and support.
