The PDA Spring Arts Weekend at Beechenhill Farm will play host to 11 PDA members for this year's Derbyshire Open Arts event over the
Spring Bank Holiday weekend 25th-27th May

Folk artist Sue Prince with her medieval storytelling in Egg Tempera; Ray Sylvester, well known for his delightful boxes; Sue Gorman who works in porcelain formed by layering colours and woodturner Roger Waterhouse with his  bowls and other useful pieces. 

Landscape artist Maggie Robinson with a strong connection with music, inspiring her paintings; Mark Langley’s meticulous style in coloured pencils and oil paints is of architecture, landscape and animals. Wheel thrown stoneware by Gary Sampson is for use in the home and jewellery and silversmithing inspired by the Peaks from Karin Sheldon

Tim Rose working in watercolours and oils as he observes the light in portraits and on architecture; Rich and colourful landscapes in pastel from Steve Elliott and ceramic pieces from Joanna Bunbury inspired by a deep connection with the natural world.

A further 18 members are opening their own studios or participating at other venues.

Joanna Allen is opening her studio for the Bank Holiday Weekend, including a preview evening on Friday 24th May (7pm-9pm). She will be exhibiting her intaglio prints, textiles and mixed media artworks in her home/studio setting at 30 High Street, New Mills. All welcome, but please be aware that there are steep stairs to her top floor studio

Mixed Media Artist Ingrid Katarina Karlsson is working on a new series this year entitled "Becoming Real", a visual narrative of the artist's personal journey involving landscapes inspired by places, symbolic birds, and words incorporated. The first showing of pieces in this project will be at a new DOArts venue in Chapel en le Frith with a group of six artists exhibiting together as "Peak Vision Arts", Chapel Scout Hut, Thornbrook Road

Giles Davies joins Ian Daisley as he opens High Stone Gallery for Derbyshire Open Arts. Unit 2D, Via Gellia Mill, Bonsall. DE4 2AJ.

Pam Smart will be opening her Studio with a View for Derbyshire Open Arts weekend and will be joined by talented watercolourist Carole Knight. There will be original paintings, prints, cards and Pam’s vibrant merchandise on display, you might even pick up a bargain in the studio sale. Textile artist Alison Wake will be opening at her Cognissart Studio on Main Road in Flagg for the weekend with a preview on Friday 24th May 6pm- 8pm. Enjoy the panoramic views over Flagg Moor from this tranquil location, see her new works, and browse her new miniature print range.

Michela Griffith is one of four PDA members who will be showing work as part of a group  at Providence United Reform Church on Mellor Road, New Mills SK22 4DP.  Her images frequently challenge visitors’ perceptions of photography and reflect a seven year dialogue with her local river, the Dove. At the same venue Cath Dunn, whose work uses the pattern, colour and rhythms of the landscape to capture the spirit of specific places in the Peak District, will be exhibiting alongside Lin Cheung and Emma Sidwell. Their mixed media works, paintings, prints and pen & ink drawings will be on display together with the ceramics, jewellery and prints of three other High Peak artists.

Other venues include Liz Wellby and Rachel Emmerson at Cromford Mills; Sarah Morley at her home in Ripley; Sandra Orme and Natasha Braithwaite at the Sky Studio Buxton; Roger Allen and Vivienne Sillar will be exhibiting as part of a group at Holymoorside Village Hall. PDA does DOArts Trail

See the PDA website for an interactive Google map showing the locations of all the PDA members listed above. Open it on your phone and you can get automatic directions to whichever venue you fancy or follow the trail route to visit them all. Other Exhibitions

It has been all change at the Druid Inn, Birchover, with a new PDA exhibition opening today 1st May. Running until Sunday 23rd June this exhibition will feature work by artists Sue Nichol, Cath Dunn, Tim Rose and Craig Longmuir.
Three PDA members will be taking part in Belper Arts Trail  over the May Day Bank holiday 5-6th May.

Natasha Braithwaite joins three other artists at The Studio, 57A Chapel Street. Part of the hub on Chapel St, this venue will also feature live music and the Tipsy Pony horse box selling wine.
Ruth Gray will be at Hall of Frames for Belper Arts Trail with a new selection of cards and prints, and textile artist Alison Wake will be exhibiting her work in the window of Fresh Basil, Strutt St.
Cath Dunn will open her Walkley studio as part of Open Up Sheffield on 4,5,6 and 11,12 May from 11am to 5pm. On display will be watercolours, oils and acrylics inspired by the Peak District and other landscapes and natural forms. The majority of the work is new including a new body of work using monotype and other printmaking techniques.
Cath’s studio can be found next door to another Peak District Artisan, Sue Nichol and there are several further artists (painters, ceramics, glass and others) nearby.

Visitors are also invited to pop in to see Maggie Robinson’s contemporary landscape paintings exhibited in her home during the Open Up Sheffield Open Studios weekend between 11am and 5pm. There will be a wide selection of originals, prints and cards on display for sale and the kettle will be on. 28 Crofton Avenue, Sheffield S6 1WF

http://joannaallen.co.uk/index.htmlJoanna Allen will be taking part in Printfest 2019 at Coronation Hall, County Square in Ulverston, Cumbria on the Bank Holiday Weekend of 5th – 6th May. This artist-led printmaking festival is a great event where you can view and buy contemporary hand- made prints direct from the 46 exhibiting artists. Joanna is showing new collagraphs, including  prints inspired by the Green Man, and several with Shakespearean themes.

As part of Leek Arts Festival 2019, Joanna will be also taking part in the Leek Art Trail, showing her new collagraphs and drypoints in the window of the White Hart Tearoom, Stockwell Street.

Ongoing Exhibitions

Don't forget Sue Gorman's Spring Show at Dronfield Hall Barn continues until 10th May and textile artist Alison Wake will  be participating in the Tideswell Markers' Market on Saturday 4th May 10am-4pm. 

Workshop Dates

Liz Wellby will be hosting experienced knitter and textiles teacher, Deborah Judd, at The Slipper Studio on Sunday 12th May. This new venture will enable the beginner or rusty knitter to develop a range of basic knitting skills in a relaxed and comfortable environment; choose to create a mug/cup holder or a toast pair of wrist warmers. 

Just in case you missed out on a place on the previous Experimental Printmaking workshops in March, Liz will also be running a third event on Sunday 19th May. This will suit those new to lino and printmaking or enable the more experienced printer to try out some more experimental approaches.

PDA Membership

We are always looking to welcome new members. Applications are reviewed by a membership group representing a cross section of genres and potential members will be invited for interview. We run three selection panels each year and deadlines for our summer and autumn intake are 2nd May and 2nd October respectively.
