A LOOK AT THE LATEST EVENTS & ACTIVITIES...
It's been a busy month for SCRIPT, from participating in planning workshops with Queensland’s Chief Entrepreneur to exhibiting at world-class innovation festivals like QODE. Here’s a roundup of the major SCRIPT events and activities which have taken place over the past few weeks.
Innovation Centre Open House Event | March 28th

Regional Innovation Coordinator, Coby Sullivan, spoke on behalf of SCRIPT, to launch the new SCRIPT program brochure and announce the businesses that had been successfully appointed to represent the Sunshine Coast region at QODE Festival.

Business delegates enjoyed a complimentary pass to the jam-packed two-day festival as well as accommodation at South Bank. The deserving recipients included: Tasha Lawton from Talk Revolution, David White from IOTIQ, John Lowe and James Hopkins from Data MC, Brad Chesham from Bundle of Rays, Kerry Neill from Goombuckar Creations and Daniel McKinnon from OMA. Well done guys!

Advancing Regional Innovation Conference 

Regional Innovation Program Managers from across the state gathered in Brisbane on April 1st to discuss the future of the Advance Queensland initiative. Each region was asked to consider the progress made so far to grow their region’s innovation ecosystem and how sustainability of the program was being prioritised.

Coby Sullivan presented to the group (joined by Darrell Edwards & Mark Paddenburg for the working lunch session) and shared information about SCRIPT’s methodology including:

  • diversified investment across five key strong pillars for Sunshine Coast (smart cities, food and agribusiness, health and wellbeing, creative industries, sustainability and environment).

  • plans to prioritise quality, significant investments in large-reach initiatives over quantity of smaller scale investments, to increase impact.

  • continued support and investment in successful programs from year one, to build momentum and continuity.

  • view to integrate SCRIPT with renowned, established organisations on the Sunshine Coast, to ensure future progress beyond the funding boundaries.

QODE FESTIVAL

QODE Festival is Australia’s leading global forum for innovation and technology. SCRIPT had an exhibitor space to represent the Sunshine Coast region and showcase its thriving innovation ecosystem - including a delegation of local founders.

The festival was a hit with more than 2,000 trade visitors and over 100 presentations, including 20+ global keynote speakers. For more details about QODE and its success, check out the after show report below.

Innovate Noosa's Speaker Series Kicked Off With
Dr Glen Richards 

Dr Glen Richards - Channel 10 Shark Investor, serial entrepreneur, mentor, and board director -visited Noosa to kick off Innovate Noosa’s Iluminate Speaker Series.

Glen was an incredible speaker, sharing many pearls of wisdom in the most humble and genuine way with a large, diverse and engaged audience. Coby represented on behalf of SCRIPT and to support Innovate Noosa, who we will be running these events every quarter with new and interesting speakers. Sunshine Coast's creative industries incubator, The Refinery, kicks off in just a couple of weeks with its highly anticipated Bootcamp. More than 30 chosen applicants will get together on the 11th & 12th of May to start developing their big ideas into sustainable businesses. Keep an eye on this one - it's an exciting project with huge potential to transform our region. Find out more below:

Cyber Security & Privacy Essentials for Small Business Workshop

The Cyber Security and Privacy Essentials for Small Business Workshop will provide a valuable opportunity for those with commercial interests across the region to come together and hear from Professor David Lacey, Chair of Cyber Security at USC, Leah Mooney, Senior Legal Officer at USC and Special Counsel on Cyber Security to Minter Ellison, and Connie McIntosh, Manager of Cyber Security Operations at the USC Institute for Cyber Investigations and Forensics.

These experts in the field will share their knowledge on how you can embed positive privacy practice and cyber safety into your business planning and day-to-day operations. A light lunch will be served, followed by the workshop and discussion. Take-home materials will also be provided.

Entrepreneur In The Region (EIR)

SCRIPT is on the lookout for an Entrepreneur In The Region (EIR). This highly experienced person will provide trusted, confidential and timely commercialisation advice to local innovators and high growth SMEs.  The EIR must have relevant entrepreneurial experience and a strong network of business contacts and relevant resources.
