Time is running out to nominate a deserving student, colleague, or mentor for a 2019 NCFR award. There are many types of awards to choose from that honor specific outstanding achievements in the family field.

In addition to recognizing excellence in research, teaching, and mentoring, many awards also recognize emerging scholars, and some even provide funding to travel to NCFR 2019 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Wednesday, May 1 is the nomination deadline for most awards. Affiliate Councils Awards have deadlines of June 1.

Mixture regression is a highly flexible method that can address moderation questions in your research — questions that previous standard methods cannot answer. Mixture regression allows you to examine whether the relationships between independent and dependent variables differ for latent classes.

During this webinar, presenter W. Justin Dyer, Ph.D., will provide an accessible introduction to mixture regression and help you learn the theory and techniques needed to employ this important new method. A "hands on" portion of the webinar will utilize MPlus and STATA software.

On Tuesday, April 23, 2019, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments on whether a citizenship question would be included on the 2020 Census.

Over a year ago, NCFR shared a statement from the Consortium of Social Science Associations (COSSA), opposing the citizenship question. NCFR is a member of COSSA.

COSSA is concerned that asking respondents to identify their citizenship could potentially deter members of immigrant communities from completing the survey accurately, or at all. This potential undercount would affect the accuracy and integrity of the Census data.

An analysis funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development finds that girls comprised 90% of teens killed by an intimate partner. The study led by Avanti Adhia, Sc.D., was published in JAMA Pediatrics.

The authors noted that while homicide is the third leading cause of death among adolescents, few studies have been conducted on intimate partner violence (IPV) among U.S. adolescents.
