Dear <<First Name>>,

My earliest memory of intentionally making art is from around the age of 5 or 6. I can picture it so clearly: a family friend, Auntie Bridgitte, sitting with me at our dining table, showing me how to make interesting shapes by overlapping letters and numbers and colouring the spaces in between. I loved it! And continued to make up all kinds of creative challenges for myself until … well, actually, I still do!

I grew up in Kenya, at at time when the creative scene wasn’t a quarter as dynamic as it is today. I didn’t know of any creative professionals who were making a decent living from their craft. I didn’t even know that there were so many potential paths for somebody wanting to pursue a creative career!

Fast-forward to the present moment when one of the projects I’m working on involves a team that includes a Design Researcher, an Interaction Designer, a Business Designer and me, a Communications Designer!

But growing up it was tough to fit into the boxes that people wanted to put me in…
