Maternity Paternity & Adoption Leave Pooling Scheme - Closure of Accounts 2018/2019

Please note for the financial year 18/19 ending on 31 March 2019, the last date for payroll report submissions was Friday 26 April 2019.  As a result, late submissions will be discounted.  It is really important for those schools who do not use WCC payroll provider that you arrange to submit payroll reports on a monthly basis. Please see below an extract from the scheme arrangements (terms and conditions).
“The school must be committed to submitting claims and payroll information monthly.
Claims forms should be submitted by email to maternityscheme@connectedpartnership.com for every employee who is on or due to go on leave to ensure accurate monitoring and prompt reimbursements.   Electronic signatures are acceptable. Claims must be submitted again when the individual resigns or returns to work to confirm that date. (Some maternity benefits are dependent on returning to work).

It is vital that schools notify their payroll provider as soon as possible of intended leave, resignation and return to work dates.  Salaries can then be adjusted in a timely manner and correct reimbursements can be processed from the scheme to schools.

Submission of payroll reports
You will have to submit absence details on a monthly basis and provide evidence from your payroll provider detailing the amount paid to the absent employee. This should include salary, Occupational Maternity Pay (OMP), Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP), SMP Credits, Employers National Insurance (NI) and Employers Pension contributions.   Please ensure there are no duplicate costs shown, such as allowances.  Please note those schools using WCC payroll provider will not have to provide monthly payroll costs as these are provided directly to ConnectEd Partnership. For those schools that don’t use WCC payroll provider, please ensure you notify the scheme of any payroll overpayment credits so that they can be refunded to the scheme. This can happen sometimes towards the end of the employee’s leave when your payroll provider makes the final SMP credit adjustments. Costs for those staff commencing or returning from leave part way through a month will be proportionate -  this includes salary costs, employers pension and employers NI Costs.
Your designated officer will assist you with this and with your permission liaise with the payroll provider”.

The FA Lionesses in France

The FA have been working on some fantastic resources to engage and inspire schools and young people to support the England Womens' Football Team, 'Lionesses', in France this year.

The resources include assembly/classroom presentations and activities linked to both the curriculum and personal development for primary and secondary school-aged students, with accompanying teacher guidance. They have been designed with flexibility in mind and can be used as a weekly theme or as several standalone activities. They also offer leadership opportunities for students which could be used with Game of Our Own and the Girls’ Football Youth Sport Award.

We are delighted to be able to share early access to these resources with you and we would be grateful if you could encourage your school/staff to download and use them to inspire more young people to support the women's game. Email and Twitter templates are included below to help you.

To show how the Women’s World Cup resources are being used, The FA are looking for a school to potentially profile in the media. If your school/s are interested in taking part, please share your plans with us. If we select your school to take part, as a thank you for the recommendation we will give you a Lionesses visit in the autumn term.

PRIMARY ADMISSIONS – Numbers on roll
Primary colleagues will have received an email from Charlotte Bodley, Admissions and Appeals Officer this week. In the email it is explained that a new online spreadsheet is now available through CloudW for Primary schools to provide the Admissions Team with information regarding pupil numbers. If schools regularly update their information on the online spreadsheet the Admissions Team will be able to retrieve the most up to date figures and identify any pending allocations that schools are in the process of admitting.
Headteachers discussed the possibility of an online spreadsheet with Mr Kirby at a meeting of WHIPS in the Autumn term. While schools are not required to complete this new system a number of colleagues considered that it would assist with the exchange of real time data and minimise telephone contact with the Admissions Team.
In order to use this system you will need to email Charlotte advising her of your school name, the name of the user that will enter data onto the spreadsheet and the email address of the user.
For information on how to access and use the spreadsheet please click here.

B-Safe Knife Crime Video
In the recent update from the Wolverhampton Safeguarding Children Board schools were advised of the video Rewind regarding knife crime that had been created by the B-Safe Team. The film can be found here. The school is aimed at KS3 and KS4 students
The B-Safe team also looked at resources that schools could use to stimulate conversation following the video and wanted to recommended the resources created by the Home Office. The free-to-download #knife free lessons created by the Home Office  – one for key stage 3 and one for key stage 4 – will inform young people of the consequences of carrying a knife and inspire them to pursue positive alternatives, using real-life stories of young people’s experiences as a basis.  The teacher guidance guides will help teachers plan the lessons into their PSHE curriculum safely and effectively and includes powerpoint slides for each key stage which will help teachers to deliver engaging and effective lessons.

Local Professional Association Advice and Consultation (LPAAC)
Your Local Professional Association representatives continue to work with schools and provide support on a variety of issues including restructures, requests for flexible working, parental complaints, absence monitoring, working on support plans, capability and our key role of reviewing and developing locally agreed policies.
Schools in the City have benefitted from positive relationships with the Local Professional Associations over a number of years and we hope that this will continue into 2019/20.
We have worked hard to reduce the cost to schools this year and we hope that you will support the scheme and buy into the agreement this year and encourage you to contact your local representative if you have any questions or concerns.
