Are you as excited to see blue jays and robins as we are? Having celebrated Earth Day on April 22nd, we’ve got our minds on being grateful for all that Mother Nature provides and being wise stewards of this place, we call home. 

Can we talk for a minute, though? Sometimes, we hear from our clients that they’re concerned about using print in their business. Not because it isn’t effective as a marketing strategy, but because...well...maybe it’s not the most eco-friendly way. Amiright? 

The #1 Myth About Print:
Printed Materials Are a Waste of Trees

That’s right! While print does use paper, trees can be replanted. (In fact, if you want to get really science-y and throw in a good measure of economics, having land with trees that will be used — and reused — specifically for paper is a great incentive for landowners to keep it forested! See for yourself!) In North America alone, the paper industry plants 1.7 million trees every day — more than it cuts. 

And, don’t forget recycling: while we’ve got some catching up to do with our neighbors to the south — a whopping 65% of all paper in the US is recycled annually, compared with 25% in Canada — paper is renewable, reusable, and recyclable. 

Planet-Friendly Paperless Promos? You Bet!

Now that we’ve cleared that up, what about your other marketing techniques? You know, t-shirts, tchotchkes, tumblers (...and many other things that don’t start with T…)? While those are definitely tried-and-true options, what can you do to reach that prospective customer or client who thinks, “Do I really need another ________________?” and walks right on by your booth when their answer is “no”?

Psst. We’ve got the answer. Ready?

Think EDIBLES.

Who ever said they didn’t need another piece of chocolate? Or hasn’t wished they had a handy tin of mints or a pack of gum right after that garlic-laden work lunch? Even more specialty items like BBQ sauce and gourmet cookies are a best-of-both-worlds idea for promoting your brand in a way that’s memorable and eco-friendly because they’re consumable. They’re less likely to wind up collecting dust in a drawer — or be passed by altogether — because while your prospective customers may not need another baseball hat or bottle opener, it’s practically guaranteed that they’ll need a piece of chocolate. Or want it. (Need, want, when it comes to chocolate, what’s the difference?)
