The National Council of Urban Indian Health (NCUIH) invites applications from young adult ambassadors (ages 18-24) located in our urban communities and surrounding areas to participate in NCUIH’s National Urban Indian Youth and Young Adult Advisory Council (“Youth Council”). This will be NCUIH's 2nd class of young adults to join the Youth Council.

Youth Council members will promote awareness of substance misuse, trauma, suicide prevention, and mental health among peers on a local and national level. All project related activities will be created by and targeted towards American Indian and Alaska Native youth and young adults living in urban communities.

Youth and Young Adults must submit a Youth Council Application and a supporting Adult Reference.  Applicants also have the option to obtain a Peer Reference or an additional adult reference.

Youth Council Selection Criteria

  • American Indian/Alaska Native living in urban communities, off reservations between the ages of 18-24 at the time of application         
  • Able to engage in a 12-month commitment with NCUIH beginning June 1, 2019, and ending May 31, 2020    
  • Youth Council members must have a desire and willingness to grow by serving as youth leaders representing urban communities             
  • Complete Youth Council Application and obtain an  Adult Reference by 11:59 PM Eastern Time on TUESDAY, APRIL 30, 2019    
  • Applicants also have the option to obtain a peer reference or an additional Adult Reference      
  • Attend a 2-day, in person Youth Council Orientation on June 27th & 28th, 2019 in Washington DC (NCUIH sponsored travel)             
  • Attend NCUIH's 2020 Annual Leadership Conference TBD
  • Presence at virtual check-in meetings between June 2019 - May 2020 
    • 1st Virtual Meeting - Monday, June 3rd, 2019 Time TBD   
  • Continued engagement through work on project related assignments
  • Accessibility via phone and e-mail
