The Summer Skills Center Program provides free Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses to Seattle Public Schools students entering grades 9–12 in September. If your student completes a course over the summer they will receive .5 credit to apply to their high school credits. Summer courses take place weekdays from Jul 8–Aug 2, 11:30 am–4:15 pm. Find out about classes and apply.

Afterschool STEM Activity

Fintastic: Rockets–Aerospace Engineering
Students will learn about rockets and flight, including drag, force, thrust, and fin positions. They will construct rockets for launch, from a soda straw rocket to a paper airplane design. Incorporating considerations such as air pressure and the shape and angle of the rocket into the design, they will assess how changes impact on flight and landing. Students will write conclusions based on their hypothesis and data collected from their launch. This curriculum also uses preconstructed flying model rocket kits with 48 possible fin configurations. When flown on standard engines, they are able to reach amazing launch heights of over 1600 feet. No fee.

Thursdays 4–5 pm in room 176 starting Apr 25 (Apr 25, May 2, May 9, May 16, May 23, and May 30).
