News from the Bunker - April 2019

We are inching closer to the much-anticipated mainnet launch of BookiePro! An update is below, along with the newest Peerplays Improvement Proposal, a list of upcoming conferences, and all of the articles we've written on Medium over the past five weeks.

Read on for the full story.

BookiePro Nearing Mainnet Launch

With every week and day that passes, BookiePro is this much closer to going LIVE on the Peerplays mainnet with play-for-fun BitFun tokens. It’s been said many times already but bears repeating: launching BookiePro requires a ton of cooperation between PBSA and Peerplays Witnesses.

For example, the last update mentioned Witnesses receiving the code to install the latest BOS (Bookie Oracle Software) version on new mainnet nodes. Given the decentralized nature of the blockchain, and the number of Witnesses that Peerplays requires, it takes a certain amount of time to get every individual onboard and up to speed.

Before, after, and while this is happening, a lot of Quality Assurance is taking place to ensure everything’s operating as it should. And at this time, we’re happy to report that everything is operating as it should!

As previously stated, we are this close to launching, and getting more and more excited with each day that passes.

To recap the milestones from previous BookiePro updates:

✅    Witnesses to deploy blockchain code upgrade
✅    Witnesses set up and test BOS
     🔲    Mainnet launch

New Peerplays Improvement Plan: Sidechain Operator Nodes (SONs)

The newest PIP was uploaded to GitHub earlier this month, and the abstract is as follows.

"In order to facilitate the transfer of token operations from the Peerplays blockchain to and from another blockchain a mechanism is necessary which will tie directly into GPOS in order to accomplish a full inter-blockchain communication mechanism.

While the Peerplays blockchain currently relies on witnesses in order to send oracalized data into the blockchain, it is preferred in order to add resilience and to reduce the overall load on witnesses to instead create a new consensus arm in Peerplays.

Sidechain Operator Nodes (SONs) are elected by Peerplays PPY holders to facilitate the role of acting as oracles to multiple blockchains, and having authority and permissions to enable certain blockchain assets and operations to pass to and from the Peerplays blockchain.

There should be a minimum of 15 SONs, however it is up to the voters to decide how many SONs should operate beyond this. When elected they will have authority to carry out certain operations within Peerplays relating to the issuing of assets that represent other blockchains, as well as any specialized operations within Peerplays intended to pass through to Peerplays sidechains."
