be kind to your mother

It's undeniable, Mother Nature's gifts to this planet are aplenty. Unfortunately, much like a spoiled child, humans haven't always been as kind to her as we should be. To help right that wrong, every year more than one billion people across 192 countries take part in Earth Day, a day of action and awareness dedicated to helping protect and conserve our planet, end pollution, and protect endangered species.

It may come as no surprise that women are among those leading the way here. In today's issue, don't miss our round-up of Women Owned businesses that will help you "go green," meet Kate McAleer of Bixby & Co. who is committed to making clean and sustainable chocolates, and check out this week's featured business The Van Cleve Seafood Co. who is bringing some of the best of what nature has to offer to kitchens around the country.

The Van Cleve Seafood Co.

In a tiny wooden seafood shack back in 2001, Shelly Van Cleve and her daughters, Allie and Monica, began providing their small town in Virginia with something it desperately lacked: quality seafood with quality customer service. Shelly had an inkling that if she was searching for quality seafood, other people must be too. What started out primarily as a 'crab shack' quickly grew into something much bigger, even featured on Oprah Magazine's "O" List of Favorite Things.
