What is ROAR?
ROAR has been designed as a whole school approach to equip front-line professionals with the tools to provide early intervention and support to children experiencing mental distress.
Liverpool Schools have accessed this programme, giving strong positive evaluations, NHG trailblazer sights in the North are implementing the roar model.
What does ROAR stand for?
ROAR stands for:
Recognise the signs and symptoms,
ask Open questions (try to spot the BIG thought),
Access support and services,
build Resilience.
Who can go on this course?
This training has been designed for primary school staff, with the vision that designated members of staff will receive the training before delivering a 2-hour CPD session within their school setting to give the whole school staff a general understanding of child mental health and introduce them to the ROAR model. Those staff members can then deliver the ROAR model to each class.
The member(s) of staff receiving the training will be equipped to deliver that CPD session in their school, as well as being given necessary resources and lesson plans. Lesson plans are for both KS1 and KS2, focused on building resilience and awareness around mental health. Delegates will be equipped to respond to specific mental health needs within their schools.
How can I get trained?
The course is free for primary schools in Liverpool, Wirral, Knowsley, Sefton, and St Helens.
When will the training take place?
The training will take place between Jan 2019 and March 2019. Venues for each course will be confirmed.
