News
Official Opening of Autism Guernsey's Offices

Autism Guernsey was extremely privileged to have Baroness Jill Pitkeathley, Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords, officially opening their new offices in St. Martin's. These more spacious offices will allow us to expand our services, subject to funding, and train more professionals and parents of children with autism.

This was followed by a lunchtime seminar held at the OGH, where Baroness Pitkeathley discussed how Government and the Island’s voluntary sector can work together to deliver more efficient and effective community services.

Special thanks to Agilisys who kindly sponsored the lunch.

Guernsey Disability Alliance
We are delighted that the Guernsey Disability Alliance have taken up our offer to move into an office within Autism Guernsey.  The two charities work well alongside each other and can share training, knowledge, ideas etc.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
Rothschilds have generously provided a grant to Autism Guernsey to deliver autism specific Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) to young people with autism over the course of 3 years.  This programme uses a self-help manual called 'Exploring Depression & Beating the Blues' which includes a range of activities for the creation of a positive and resilient self-identity and offers a new perspective on how individuals perceive and think about themselves and their experiences.
Earlybird Teen Life Programme
Autism Guernsey is delighted to have been awarded a grant from the Christmas Lottery for three staff to be trained in the Earlybird Teen Life Programme.  Teen Life is a programme that aims to empower parents and support professionals to understand more about how autism is experienced by autistic teenagers.  It reinforces useful strategies and ideas of how to support the autistic teenager.

Once the staff have been trained they will be awarded a 3 year Licence which will enable them to undertake workshops in Guernsey for parents of autistic teenagers.
Sleep Better Programme
Following the successful completion of the Sleep Better Accredited training course, kindly sponsored by Only Fools & Donkeys, the staff at Autism Guernsey are now licensed to deliver their own workshops to parents of autistic children.

We would like to thank Channel Island Adjusters for kindly giving us a donation in lieu of sending Christmas Cards which will pay for the forthcoming workshops.
Charity of the Year 2018
La Grande Mare Ladies Golf Club kindly nominated Autism Guernsey as their charity for 2018 and raised a phenomenal £1,700 for the Charity.   This donation will go towards follow-up sessions to our Socialeyes Programme. 'Socialeyes' focuses on eight skills individuals with autism may have difficult with including starting a conversation, eye contact and personal space.
Sports Activities
Further to the generous grant from Rothschilds, our children and young people on the spectrum have been enjoying sports activities which they may never have tried before due to their sensory issues.  These have included Archery, Wall Climbing and Gym, with Badminton and other activities currently being arranged for the summer months.
Pirate Golf at St. Pierre Park
Our clients were delighted to be able to play a round of Pirate Golf courtesy of ABN Amro.  They kindly donated 50 tickets to enable our staff to arrange for organised groups of children and adults with autism to take part in an activity which may not normally be accessible to them due to sensory issues.  Everybody had wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
New Pre-School Play Group
Autism Guernsey has recently established a new Pre-School Play Group where children with autism can spend an hour playing with other pre-schoolers on the autism spectrum.  It also gives the parents a chance to socialise with other parents and share knowledge, experiences, ideas etc.
New 'Meet & Make' Craft Group
Adults on the autistic spectrum now have the opportunity of spending a couple hours on a Sunday making crafts, whilst socialising with other adults on the spectrum.
In order to join either of the above new Groups, a referral form has to be completed and reviewed at the six-weekly referral meeting.
Donation of Smart Phones by JT Social

Autism Guernsey is so grateful to JTsocial for donating two smart phones to our Support Workers. As we do not receive any States funding all resources need to be purchased with donations or gifted, therefore we cannot express how important it is for gifts such as these so we don't have to use our valuable financial donations for resources.

Liverpool Marathon

Rebecca Lesley is kindly running the Liverpool Marathon in aid of Autism Guernsey and needs your support. These are her words:

"I will be running the Liverpool Rock 'n Roll Marathon on 26th May 2019 for Autism Guernsey. As a volunteer for the charity I have been able to see the brilliant support they provide for young people on the spectrum and their families. Your donations will go towards the charity's services, events and clubs so it can continue to improve the lives of people with Autism."

If you would like to support Rebecca and make a donation, please go on to Giving.gg. Many thanks.

Autism Flag Day

Autism Guernsey's flag day held at the end of March was extremely successfully and raised £3,578.73 due to the generosity of the public.

Many thanks to all our volunteers as we couldn't have done it without them.
Guernsey Landmarks Quiz 2019

Congratulations to Imogen Wegerer, Linda Falla and Margaret Tostevin who got the most answers right and won the prizes in our Landmarks Quiz.

We would like to thank La Barbarie Hotel and St. James for donating prizes.  I'm sure our worthy winners will enjoy them.
How you can help support Autism Guernsey

Lottery

The primary aim of the Autism Guernsey Lottery is to ensure the sustainability of the Charity. Autism Guernsey offers a range of support in the local community including an Outreach Service where staff give one-to-one help to individuals and families. Demand outstrips our capacity and therefore we have a significant waiting list with referrals for support being received on a daily basis.  To download a registration form, click here.

The charity receives no financial support from the States and has to rely on fundraising and charitable donations to continue the valuable work within the community.
Join easyfundraising and you can collect free donations for Autism Guernsey every time you buy something online.  It won't cost you a penny extra, so please help us to raise funds.

Donations Needed

We are still accepting donations of Summer Clothes, Shoes, Handbags etc. for our Fashion Show.

If you have any good quality Children's Toys you would like to donate for our stall at Government House Fete, we would be extremely grateful.

Also we are looking for Raffle Prizes for our fundraising events.  If you have any unwanted gifts or would like to donate a prize, it would be greatly appreciated.

If you are able to donate any of the above items, please contact Mandy on Tel: 232879 office@autismguernsey.org.gg

Thank you.

In addition to the children's clubs, there are also two groups for adults: The Interests Group and The Club With No Name.  See our website for further details.

Outreach Services

The outreach service provides tailored and comprehensive support to individuals affected by autism within the community.

Established in 2012, the aim is to enable the individual to manage autism so that they can have a positive and fulfilling life – making choices that are right for them.

We adapt our services to the individual’s needs. No person is the same and that is something we respect and value.

SocialEyes

The programme helps individuals with autism to learn social interaction skills or alternative social strategies.  It focuses on eight social skills that people on the autism spectrum can have difficulty with, including starting a conversation, eye contact and personal space.

CBT

The programme enables individuals with Aspergers Syndrome to better understand their depression, and teaches them skills and strategies they can use to manage anxiety and depression throughout their life.

The programme is based on established CBT principles, but is specifically adapted for individuals with autism.

If you require support from Autism Guernsey, please contact the office on Tel: 232879 or office@autismguernsey.org.gg for a referral form.
