The Cross Remains

When my daughter texted me the news about the fire at the Cathedral at Notre Dame, I instantly heard in my spirit the title to the movie, “Paris is Burning,” and sensed it was significant to the event.
When I looked up the movie, it was all about the fire of sexual passion in Paris and featured many stories of that lifestyle there.
Along with that, we’ve all heard about recent findings of long time and widespread sexual assaults and abuse in the Catholic Church and the immense damage it’s done to many.
Interestingly, when the fire at Notre Dame was over, the cross had stayed intact. It stood out above the rubble and appeared to be shining amongst the damage and ashes.
I believe it was a sign that God is purging the church and bringing attention back to the importance of the cross, above that of a Church building. I believe it is also a sign to those who have gone through tragedies that the cross of Christ remains above the rubble in their lives.
Our God is a consuming fire. (Hebrews 12:29)
The Bible often uses fire to symbolize the presence of God, the refining power of the Holy Spirit, and even God’s anger.
Each man's work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man's work. (1 Corinthians 3:13)
There’s a fire of refinement that has come to the Catholic Church and to Paris, as well as the church as a whole. The church is to be about Him and the redeeming power of His cross. There are those within the Church who have remained true to their call and have been praying for this. Revival fires are beginning to burn.
If people use a building meant for Him to dwell in for evil purposes, or allow it to become an idol, He will burn it down. He will not be mocked. The Christian church is not about the building. It’s about the Lord Jesus Christ, His cross, and what He did on that cross for His people.
If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. (1 Corinthians 3:15)
The season we are currently in is one of great purging. All around us we see that business is not as usual. Many are being brought into accountability for their actions and words, regardless of their station in life. But the cross stands as a reminder that Christ died to redeem us from our sins and transgressions. There’s life and hope that exists after the fires in life.
Easter reminds us of the cross of Jesus Christ and His redeeming power. The cross remains.
Let us focus on the cross of Christ and come to Him anew as we celebrate this Easter weekend. Let us bring to Him those things that should not be in our lives and allow Him to burn it out of our lives. Let us allow Him to purify our hearts, minds, and lips.
(8) "Therefore wait for Me," declares the LORD...For all the earth will be devoured By the fire of My zeal. (9) "For then I will give to the peoples purified lips, That all of them may call on the name of the LORD, To serve Him shoulder to shoulder. (Zephaniah 3:8-9)
Let the fire at Notre Dame stand as a sign that the refining fire of the Holy Spirit has come to Paris and to the church as a whole throughout the earth.
There’s much going on throughout the earth that is disturbing. But let us remember the Good News. In the midst of the rubble, the cross of Jesus Christ remains.
