Bake Sale Report

The QCC hosted a bake sale at Cid's Market on March 23. It was one of those cold and breezy (windy!) days, but folks were very generous, even contributing when the goods had all been sold. Many thanks to you for all the wonderful goodies and to all the members who donated items and time. A special thanks goes out to Linda Betz, Nancy Parker, and Chuck for all your help organizing and working the bake sale.
The next bake sale will be June 15. If you can contribute, we will especially like to have more of these kinds of baked goods:
  • gluten-free
  • savory, and
  • vegan offerings
See you then!

Library First Fridays

The partnership with Questa Library that began on March 8, "Library Friday with the ArtKids," has been a lot of fun! Usually 10 to 15 kids show up, plus their parents, and they all enjoy the artistic activities. We have worked with printmaking, Easter egg design, self-portraits, and more.

Our final Friday will be May 10. During this session, kids will work on making a Koi windsock for the spring breezes. We are working on getting a 3D program started for the fall! Stay tuned!

Questa History Trail

Our History Trail team wishes to thank all our neighbors and visitors who have offered feedback in the last year!

The team is busy with grant-writing and planning for this coming summer’s effort, and plan to replace our existing wooden trail signs with long lasting metal frames and updated text this year. Comments taken at our guided walks of last summer will be used to move the project along. The team also hopes to add some directional signage and make the path thoroughly and continuously walkable.

If you wish to help match their second National Heritage Area grant our team has secured, you can make a donation on our QCC website, or mail us a check, noting “History Trail.” Watch for the next stage of this work to be completed by the end of this summer, 2019. Thank you for your patience and your support! Contact Alberta for more information at questacreativecouncil@gmail.com.

Wild Rivers Plein Air Festival

Tuesday - Sunday, July 16 - 21, 2019

The Wild Rivers Plein Air Festival is now full, with over 80 artists registered. While the registration is closed, we do have two scholarships for local folks if you are interested; one adult and one youth. You can also be placed on our waiting list by emailing us at wildriverspleinair@gmail.com. Finally, you are always welcome to come paint alongside the other artists and watch the demos, you just can’t join in on the competitions!  More information: here or call Peggy at (505) 974-5314.

Questa Arts Tour

Saturday-Sunday, August 17-18, 2019
10 am - 5 pm daily

If you are interested in participating in this summer's Questa Arts Tour, please get your application and fee in soon.

The deadline is May 31. In order to be listed in advertising and the brochure, this is necessary.

You can find the application here.

We will be growing this year with three new stops, one in Lama, one on Flag Road, and one at the Youth Center. Another new feature: the tour will have a central information hub at the Questa traffic light plazuela with info about each location.

NeoRio 2019

Saturday, September 21, 2019, starting at 4 pm

Montoso Campground, Wild Rivers, Rio Grande del Norte National Monument

NeoRio 2019 promises to be another thought-provoking event this year!

Artists and collaborators will explore “universal elements,” coinciding with the United Nations “International Year of the Periodic Table of Elements” and the 150th anniversary of the discovery of the Periodic System.

Come discover art installations along the rim of the Rio Grande gorge, hands-on activities, the afternoon music and poetry salon, a delicious farm-to-table feast, music, artist talks, an evening campfire, and more.

This is a FREE event. More information here.

Questa Beautification Signage Projects

Lamp Post Banners - Two more sets of banners are in the works. The QCC received a whopping 25 different submissions of artwork created by local artists and Questa area youth. The final selection of 16 is under way. After that is completed, our graphics department (Martha Shepp) will format and prepare the images for printing. We hope the retablos will be up for everyone to see very soon, pending hardware installation on light poles. Look for news of an opening celebration with posters of images for sale in the near future.

Welcome Signs - The QCC has partnered with the QEDF to develop three “Welcome to Questa” signs to be installed on the main roads as one drives into Questa. The final design is in the process of fabrication and several sites are under consideration.

How can you support projects like these into the future? Consider volunteering.
