MJ-school Opportunities and Announcements
MEJO 584 Documentary Screening
Uprooted is a collaborative multimedia project created by MEJO 584 (Documentary Multimedia Storytelling) documenting Venezuelan families who have fled to Medellín, Colombia, to seek better lives. 

The UNC School of Media and Journalism and the UNC Institute for the Study of the Americas will host a premiere screening and Q&A on Tuesday, April 23 at 5:30 p.m. at the Nelson Mandela Auditorium in the FedEx Global Education Center on UNC’s campus. This premiere screening is free and open to the public. Click here for more information.

Meet the Pros: Brittany Hendricks
Brittany Hendricks ('14) is a Post Production Coordinator for ABC's Grownish. She's previously worked in production and post-production at HBO, 20th Century FOX, and multiple LA-based production companies. 

Brittany will be hosting an informational session via Zoom to speak with students about her career and offer advice for those interested in careers in television and production.

Lecture with Eric Mayville – Co-founder of Wondersauce
Join the MJ-school for a lecture with Eric Mayville, the co-founder of Wondersauce, a multi-million dollar advertising agency centered on human behavior. Wondersauce has helped clients from around the world, including Bombas, GQ, The Boston Globe, and Stella Artois, to name a few. He was named Business Insider’s 30 Under 30 Most Creative People in Advertising in 2012.

The event will be held on April 24, 7:00 p.m. in Carroll Hall, Room 33. It is hosted by the Society for News Design Club.

Advocacy & Political Research Intern - Education Reform Now / New York, NY
Are you interested in the world of issue advocacy and political research? ERNA is searching for a self-motivated, high-energy and organized undergraduate or graduate student with experience in research and has a high comfort level with search engines, web browsers, databases and common office software. The ideal applicant will also have an interest in political campaigns and politics. Recent graduates are also welcomed to apply. 

The applicant will also gain valuable work experience conducting multiple in-depth projects and be responsible for researching, writing and presenting a finished product. Applicants must be able to think analytically and lead discussions about the research process. You will be compensated at the rate of $15/hour, less all applicable taxes and withholdings, which will be paid out in bi-weekly pay periods.

Marketing Intern - Oxford University Press / Cary, NC
The Institutional Marketing department is currently accepting applications for an Institutional Marketing Intern for the Oxford University Press Summer Internship Program.

 Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting Americas Institutional Marketing staff with a range of marketing campaigns and projects including e-marketing, web promotions and updates, advertising, conferences, etc.
  • Assisting with library conference preparations including arranging print material, prepping conference materials, and shipping
  • Maintaining and updating systems to track and record marketing campaigns and results, as well as assisting with reports
  • Performing various administrative duties
  • Assist with sales enablement related projects including auditing and analyzing sales tools and materials

Fall 2019 PR Intern - Tibi / New York, NY
Tibi is looking for an intern to join our PR team. Intern will learn the ropes of being a part of an in-house PR team including managing the showroom, assisting with the bi-annual fashion week, and working on special press projects. Due to the unique small size of the team, this position is extremely hands on and offers extensive learning experience for anyone interested in entering the PR field. We are looking for an intern for 4 or 5 days a week from 9am to 6pm. Ideal start date August for the Fall Semester (through December). Prior experience a plus. ***This is an unpaid internship, offering school credit only.

Media Intern - Bigfoot Sustainable Development Goals Adventure
The Sustainable Development Goals were agreed upon in September 2015 at a Heads of State meeting at the United Nations in New York. There are 17 Sustainable Development Goals (and 169 targets) that are the pathway to living on the planet in a sustainable, equitable and peaceful way. They address the major challenges that we face in the areas of development, economic and environment. On September 24-25th of 2019, progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be reviewed by the Heads of State.

This resulted in the first annual Bigfoot Festival held in Marion, NC in September 2018, which was attended by over 15,000 people. This project aims to develop a “race” that highlights the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals by creating a fun and innovative way to engage public of the state of North Carolina. This project will go over two days and feature 6 challenges across the state. There will be up to ten teams who compete in this race, facing challenges ranging from creating art from trash to using a bicycle to generate power. The Bigfoot Sustainable Development Goals Adventure will be a challenging feat that will spread fun and awareness across the state. 

Media Interns will work on the development of the media campaign around the project. Media interns will also work with traditional media by contacting local, national, and regional news sources. Product Marketing Intern - Journals Marketing / Cary, NC
As an intern for the Journals Product Marketing team, you will assist US journals marketing staff with implementing marketing campaigns that include copywriting, web promotions, social media, email campaigns, print promotional pieces, and basic design work. You will also assist with web page updates, systems and database maintenance, tracking and recording campaign results, auditing and updating conference materials, assisting with market research, and performing various administrative duties.

Intern - Journals Marketing / Cary, NC
As an intern with the Journals Product Marketing team, you will be responsible for the maintenance and scheduling of content for the social media accounts of a high profile medical journal published by Oxford University Press. You will work directly with an Assistant Marketing Manager, who will manage your training and workload.

Specific duties will include:

  • Tracking publication dates of articles
  • Scheduling pre-written social media posts in coordination with article publication dates
  • Choosing imagery to accompany social media posts
  • Monitoring audience interaction with social media channels
  • Retweeting and reposting content from the community as needed
  • Tracking and reporting on channel growth and engagement
  • Periodic check-ins and reporting to the Assistant Marketing Manager

Director of Global, Immersive and Professional Programs - UNC School of Media and Journalism / Chapel Hill, NC
The Director of Global, Immersive and Professional Programs leads development and implementation of engaging and enriching academic and experiential programs for nearly 1,000 undergraduate majors as well as media professionals and international visitors in the UNC School of Media and Journalism.

The Director facilitates a deep dive into media and journalism education through a wide range of instructional and co-curricular initiatives. Such programs include trips to domestic and international locations; workshops for working professionals; and a Visiting International Scholars program. The Director prepares proposals, creates new programs and seeks out revenue-generating opportunities. The Director oversees financial plans and timelines for programs and ensures the successful execution of activities within budget. The Director sets strategy for the school’s global initiatives in line with the school’s vision, including study abroad partnerships, and represents the School throughout the University and beyond. The Director is a hands-on connector and entrepreneurial program builder, working across areas to bring together people and resources to achieve exceptional results.
