We have had a number of special events to report on this past month. Locally, the most important news has been the tremendous volunteer efforts in West Carleton. As we all welcome the spring thaw, there are many who are anxiously watching the Ottawa River water levels. Thank you to all who are making a difference in saving properties and keeping people safe in Galetta, Constance Bay and throughout West Carleton.

Other highlights this month include.... at Queen's Park, the Government presented the 2019 Ontario Budget. In Kanata, our local high tech community continues to make the news. We also have a new business opening and volunteer appreciation awards to report on. In this newsletter, I have touched on all this news from our Kanata-Carleton community. As you will see from the photos below, I make it around our community to meet with residents, groups and businesses. Contact me if you have a special event you would like me to attend, or a particular issue to discuss. I would be very pleased to connect on matters concerning you.

There were many volunteers who joined in to help with the sand bag efforts in Constance Bay and throughout West Carleton. Thank you to all volunteers!

Many thanks as well go out to the SAR (Search And Rescue) team helping to coordinate sandbagging efforts throughout Easter weekend in Constance Bay. Your work is greatly appreciated.

On April 11, the Provincial Government presented the 2019 Ontario Budget. You can read more here on the budget - and my recent Our Community Voice newspaper column is here: Ontario Provincial Budget Delivers.

[ABOVE] On April 2nd, I helped with the ribbon ceremony to open the doors to TECHNATA, a tech expo and talent hunt organized by Kanata North Business Association. [BELOW] I am speaking with representatives from Cisco at the tech expo.

The Ontario Premier's visit to our community -- his tour of Renaissance Repair and Supply in Kanata and briefing by KNBA Director of Operations Veronica Farmer -- made front page news of Our Community Voice. Here is a link to the paper.

I am discussing the success of TECHNATA with Kanata North Business Association Chair Amy MacLeod.
We have a dynamic business community and I am looking at many ways to foster a stronger local business climate. For example, last month I released the "High Tech and Business Initiative," which identifies four pillars of sustainability and growth to advance the interests of high tech and business in Kanata and West Carleton. I was pleased to be on hand to offer congratulations to the staff on the opening of Mary Brown's in its new location: 400 Earl Grey Dr. #7, Kanata in the Centrum.

[ABOVE] I enjoyed attending the volunteer breakfast of the Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre earlier this month. It was great to meet and speak with so many wonderful volunteers. [BELOW] I am with the volunteer award recipients, Tom Clifford and Lise Dorey, recognized by the WOCRC for their tireless efforts helping in the community.

I enjoy working with my Ottawa City Councillors. Here I am with Kanata South Councillor Allan Hubley (right) and Kanata North Jenna Sudds (middle). Missing from this photo is West Carleton-March Councillor Eli El-Chintiry.
