Marty's Message

Congratulations to CPS students Carly Rhyner and Tyler Hillery who were selected to showcase their research to state legislators and UW System leaders at the 16th annual Research in the Rotunda. The event brings selected students and faculty from UW System campuses to Madison to share their research findings on a variety of important topics with legislators, state leaders, UW alumni, and the public inside the historic Capitol Rotunda. The event allows students and faculty advisers from across the UW System to connect and spread their knowledge.

The research that both Carly and Tyler were involved in was funded by Tom '80 and Deb Klismith. The Klismith School of Business and Economics Community Engagement Endowment funds student-faculty research that brings benefit to the region.

The impact that undergraduate research (and other high impact practices) has on student success is well established. Working with a faculty member on a research project leads to higher levels of engagement, skill development in critical thinking and project management, and to ultimate success in school and beyond. I am sure it is as exciting for Tom and Deb as it is for me to watch our undergraduate researchers grow both intellectually and personally throughout the process.

Marty Loy,
CPS Dean
