Computer in Homes

Our first Computer in Homes course was a great success!  We had 9 lovely wāhine complete their 30 hours of digital literacy training and graduate!  They were presented with their certificate and awarded their chromebooks to take home.  Congratulations ladies and a massive thankyou to our amazing tutor Chris who is so intentional in his way of working.

“I am so happy that I was able to provide my son with a laptop for his first year at PNBHS *tears*. There was no way I could usually afford one, so thank you so much"- Rosa

This course is empowering, more than just a computer course”- Chris

I like the wairua of this place and the community feel"- Francine

Our Term 2 course is also underway with 11 participants due to graduate this term.

Mothers High Tea

On the 4th of May, we held our Mothers High Tea to celebrate and empower mothers . We had 50 mama attend where they were treated to a High Tea, were able to connect and share with each other and had the chance to win amazing spot prizes. We collaborated with St Oswald's, Central Baptist and All Saints to put this event together.

'Perfect in every way and just what I needed. This event was well planned and thought out and what a beautiful way to spoil and empower all the mama that turned up today.'- Daryl Ann George
It was awesome to feel a sense of community created among mothers. They reflected on their own experiences as mothers and shared inspiration and encouragement with each other. Overall it was an inspiring afternoon that we hope left mothers feeling valued and that they deserve to be acknowledged for all they do for their whānau.

He Ngākau Rangatahi

The second term has seen an increase in the number of rangatahi joining the TANCS whānau. We are so happy to have them with us, engaging in positive activities throughout the weeks. We also had a new staff member join our team. Ola Matalave, has shared her talent of singing and connecting with the young people with the added ingredient of laughter. Thanks Ola.
Only one week to go for the term, so the staff want to end the term strong with motivational workshops and the continuation of the learning program run by Allie Shailer. On behalf of the HNR team, we thank you all for your continued support.

Learning in He Ngākau Rangatahi
One of the key highlights for the staff and young people was when Fiona George’s Aunty, Christina Rahira Chase shared her skills in Maori Arts with Raranga and carving. The young people had several sessions with her learning about the Tikanga and how to cut the flax where they learnt to weave a small gift basket.  We look forward to learning about bone carving next time.
We appreciate your time and effort Aunty Christina. Thank you.

Give it a Go

As the winter is approaching, our Give it a Go sports programme in Farnham Park has come to an end. Here are some photos of kids enjoying the cricket session with Cricket Manawatu, and rippa rugby with Manawatu Rugby.  It has been so great collaborating with Sport Manawatu to provide our local tamariki with the opportunity to try different sports, be active and have fun together. We definitely have some budding young sportsmen and sportswomen in our community!

Blankets for Community

This month as our temperatures dropped we had a extremely kind donation of blankets from CCC on Pascal Street.  They were a very welcome relief to many of our whānau, so a big thank you to all those from CCC who donated.
Ehara koe i a ia!

He Ngākau Matua

On Tuesday 21st of May, the students of He Ngākau Matua celebrated a baby shower for three expectant mothers, the baby shower was situated in the gathering space at Te Aroha Noa, the baby shower included food and drink which finished with fun games for everyone. It was a collective lesson as it was to teach the students how to plan parties and cater food for future events. It was a huge success thanks to the enthusiasm and leadership of Pou and Brydie.

Te Ahikā

Just an update that Waiata Wednesday has changed to Waiata Monday!  Doesn't have the same ring to it but this way we will have more staff able to attend.  This happens every week in the Gathering Space 12.30pm. The 5 waiata we are focusing on are: Tāne mahuta, E hoki mai rā, Pūrea nei, He Honore and Tai Aroha.
Te Ataarangi Māori - Te reo Māori Classes
The class is in it's 8th week and attendance has been great even in the Winter evenings.  We have been learning karakia, mihi, action songs, games, sentence structures, action word, tenses (past, present, future), correct pronunciation and so much more.
Staff can be heard using the learnt reo Māori in the hallways, clients and in team hui.
Four more weeks left until we graduate.

Nā tō rourou, nā taku rourou ka ora ai te iwi

We have generously been given $3000 by the Central Baptist Church Trust towards the purchase of a car to support Te Aroha Noa’s whānau practice mahi (hospital and medical appointments, housing interviews, work and income appointments etc)

We are still hoping to raise another $4000 so we can purchase a reliable car, equip it with child restraint seats and put some TANCS sign writing on it.
Donations of $20, $50 and $100 would be hugely appreciated.
See below for how you can donate:
