HOLYOKE ROWS NEWS

May 2019
Greetings,
Finally it is warm and beautiful and time to get new folks on the river. We have beginner classes in May, June and July. Sculling, both in the morning and evening, begins in June. Beginners sweep classes start May 13th for the general public and also for Cancer Connection participants (see more info about Cancer Connection rowing below). Our experienced rowers have been on the water since March and new people are welcome anytime. Please check out our website for more. Don't hesitate to email or call me if you have questions.

I am excited to increase both our sculling and sweep membership. Thanks to more hours from our administrative assistant, you will find the boathouse better organized and repairs happening on a regular basis. We are in a good place to grow our club. Help by telling friends about our classes.

WHO'S WHO AT HOLYOKE ROWS
Q & A with Ella Budington

Q: How did you get started in adaptive rowing?
Ella: Before I started rowing, I was a swimmer. After I lost the use of my legs, it was too hard for me to go back to swimming and my former occupational therapist knew of Holyoke Rows and suggested I give it a try.

Q:. How long have you been rowing?
Ella: I have been rowing for roughly 3.5 years

Q: What do you like about rowing?
Ella: I love how peaceful it is. I like that no matter what is going on in the outside world, I can come to the boathouse and leave my stresses behind me.

Q: Why did you come to Holyoke Rows versus another boathouse?
Ella: I was at a different boathouse last year and they just weren't as well equipped as Holyoke Rows was and I felt more comfortable with Stephanie who knew what she was doing.

Q: Do you have a rowing goal or anything new you’d like to try this year?
Ella: I hope to compete in more regattas this spring!
