However, as it is written:
“What no eye has seen,
what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived”
the things God has prepared for those who love him
1st Corinthians 2:9 NIV
Can you imagine seeing a wide-eyed four-year-old eagerly waiting to get his chance to dance like his big sister? That was our story in the beginning. I remember playing UNO with him and watching the other kids at our local dance studio. Like a minor league baseball player suddenly getting the call to the Major Leagues, I am now watching my son on the verge of becoming a professional ballet dancer after college graduation.
As we plan for our son’s move to adulthood, I can’t help but to reminisce over the number of dance conventions, evening classes, summer intensives and performances that we have attended. I can remember consoling a tearful 10-year-old at his first national dance convention in Myrtle Beach, SC, when he didn’t make the final performance cut; I remember him marveling at the famous Hollywood sign after winning a Performance Arts Scholarship, allowing him to train with key leaders in the industry. However, the most defining movement was recently sitting among thousands and watching him perform in “The Nutcracker” with a professional ballet company as an Intern. Who would have thought that I would have to stand in line with pushy parents just to get his picture after the show?
I truly believe the words of Paul, when he said, “what no human has conceived – the things God has prepared for those who love Him.” I never dreamed that the Lord would take someone literally “sitting on the bench” to such incredible heights.
So, as we watch him walk across the stage, get his first apartment and assist him with the transition, I can’t wait to see what else God has in store for his life. I would challenge you to trust God and His proven track record in your own walk with your children. Happy Graduation, Son.
