Personality Tests

I've taken a lot of different personality tests over the years: Myers-Briggs, Gem Personality, and the Creative Type test (shared below) is the latest I've tried. I find that there are nuggets of insight in each test, but I also know that I have test differently on the same test over the years.

Creative Types

Not all creative people approach things the same way, right? For instance, what is your favorite part of the quilting process? Your least favorite? My favorite part varies project to project, but I love design and piecing and binding. My least favorite part is fabric preparation.

The newest personality test sweeping around right now is the Creative Types test created by Adobe Create. There are 15 two-choice questions that seek to delve into how you think, how you act, and how you see the world to help you better understand who you are as a creative.

I tested as The Producer. What is your Creative Type?

Summer Sampler 2019 - Sparkler Block

Were you able to pick out which block I designed in the Summer Sampler 2019?

I look forward to getting to use sparklers every 4th of July, and it is such a quintessential part of summer that it was the inspiration for my Summer Sampler block design. The Sparkler block will introduce transparency topics, especially for moving around the colorwheel and not just working monochromatically. Piece one block for the Summer Sampler quilt and then make 4 more to make a fun mini quilt!

The Summer Sampler 2019 -- Piecing Bootcamp price is $29.99. Once registered, participants will receive a welcome PDF with fabric requirements, the schedule, the specific solids used in the mockup, and answers to frequently asked questions. Be sure to use Coupon Code JETGIRL when you checkout to receive a $5 discount. You can purchase a kit from Sewtopia using the 15 specially curated Moda Bella solids.

The Summer Sampler quilt along kicks off on May 20th with 21 unique blocks. Will you be joining in?

Leap, and the Net will Appear

Last week I was stopped in my tracks by this post by Marie Forleo. While I wouldn't classify myself as THAT scared by the leap to traveling in Wabi-Sabi Overland, I will say that the last week of preparations had both my husband and I double checking everything. So I really appreciated seeing this and reading Marie's wise caption/advice:

"T R U T H ☝🏼And, those feelings are 💯 okay. ⠀
.⠀
There’s a false comfort in backing away from fear. If you want life to grow, train yourself to welcome fear. Breathe into it. And, make your move anyway.⠀
.⠀
You can feel scared *and* take action. You can feel insecure *and* still move ahead. You can feel nervous *and* speak up for what you want. (I do it all the time :)⠀
. ⠀
Our lives are ours to create."

Quilting in 75 square feet

Speaking of Wabi-Sabi Overland, we are on the first few days of our traveling and settling into the space. My husband patiently listened to all of my requests and carefully crafted a functional and beautiful space for me to quilt in. I was able to pack everything I wanted into the storage, which still amazes me.

I have already sewn my first blocks while traveling and up next I plan to do some quilting. I'm already excited to photograph the finished quilt along the way!

Finding Design Inspiration

Even if you have already read the Finding Design Inspiration post I shared last week, be sure to hop back over to check out the discussion happening in the comments.

Where do you find design inspiration? Do you have something that really speaks to you in the photograph above? Is it a color or a shape or even a texture or idea?

Upcoming Quilting Jetgirl Events

QuiltCon just announced the faculty for the 2020 event, which will be held in Austin, TX. I'm thrilled to be asked back as an instructor next year. Stay tuned for the workshop catalog to be released soon!

In Closing...

While learning more about ourselves through personality tests is interesting, what I especially appreciate is learning insights about other perspectives and approaches. I am always fascinated to read the other personality descriptions and find other parts of myself in them while also learning more about others I work with and care about.
