Teacher Appreciation Week

Staff Appreciation Breakfast -Thursday May, 9th - 7:15am (East Gym)

 

Guest Speaker V.J. Smith

Author V.J. Smith to spoke at at South on Monday, April 29th.  His book, The Richest Man in Town, is a true story of his friend that taught him life lessons of character, happiness, and how to treat other people. The message also spoke to saying “Thank You” to those that help and support you, looking for the good in all, and understanding that “What Goes Around, Comes Around!”.  

 

Mr. Smith stayed after his presentation to meet and greet with students.

MCA Testing

8th grade Science MCA testing will begin this week. Please make sure your student is doing the following to get prepared and do well on the test:

  • Getting a good night’s rest and eating breakfast

  • Studying Sample MCA tests - CLICK HERE

  • Keeping their Goals in Mind

  • Focusing on Growth

Mystery Staff of the Week!

Mystery Staff clues for this week are…

  1. Was born in Iowa

  2. Learned to speak French in high school

  3. Does not like to cook or clean

  4. Works with stained glass as a hobby

  5. Spins fiber into yarn, then knits it.

Teachers will visit the link shared below and reflect on their own approaches to making the end of the school year great.  As a staff we will find ways to reconnect with students who may struggle in the last month of school as well as rely on the connections we have already made.  Our South community will keep calm and focus on learning right up until the end of May!

Partners in Action

The District 742 Board of Education Partners In Education Awards are rescheduled for

Monday, May 13 at 6 p.m. at the Great River Regional Library in St. Cloud.

We are proud to recognize the contributions of individuals and organizations that illuminate the mission and support our schools and students. The Partners in Education Awards recognize individuals and organizations for their significant contributions to public education and student success in our community.

 

After-School Programs

Homework Club After School

The homework club will be available Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:25-4:30.  Students should be in room 177 by 3:25pm and need to have a ride coordinated to pick them up at door #7 at 4:30pm.  There will be 2 tutors in the room to help students each day.

The Homework club offers a place for students to complete assignments or study in a supportive environment after school.

Requirements: Students must have homework and be referred to the club by a Teacher or Staff.

Students must follow program expectations concerning fostering a quiet environment.

Location: room 177 (on the south side of the building, near door 4)

Time: 3:20-4:25 pm every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Transportation is not provided for this program. Students will need to get picked up by 4:30 or walk home after homework club.   Students need to exit the building at doors 4,5 or 7. Parents need to pick up their students outside door 7.

* Congratulations to the South Boys & Girls Track teams on their performance on Thursday, May 2nd.  Both teams did a terrific job and had many personal bests.

* SHOUT OUT! To the Track Coaches and all the wonderful volunteers that made the South Track meet a HUGE success!

* Great job by the 6th/7th & 8th grade Softball Teams.  Both teams split games with Rocori last Thursday.

* South Baseball teams had solid performances last week vs Rocori as well.  8th grade lost 2 very close games but played well. 7th Grade teams went 2-2 in their 4 games.  

 
  • All practices will be scheduled to be outside. When inclement weather forces us inside, we will rotate between Track and Baseball/Softball being inside for practice. Decisions will be made by 2pm each school day.
