May 7th

7PM -9 PM

Hollywood, Florida: Students,
community members, and local leaders are hosting a Sunrise Movement town hall
at the Hollywood Beach and Culture Center on Tuesday May 7, to kickoff the next
phase of the campaign for the Green New Deal and share how the 10-year
mobilization to stop climate change and create millions of good jobs would
improve the lives of people in Broward County. The  Democratic Environmental Caucus of Broward,
the Democratic Progressive Caucus of Broward, and numerous other organizations are sponsoring the
event that is expected to be attended by over 300 participants, eager to share
their concerns, experiences, knowledge, energy, and ideas.

Speakers will include Miramar Mayor Wayne Messam, Broward County, Commissioner Beam Furr, Val Holly, a teenaged plaintiff in the Florida Constitutional Climate Change Lawsuit, and climate change, economic and environmental justice experts, George Cavros, Caroline Lewis and Ransford Edwards of Nova Southeastern University. Film student Stefany Rodriguez will facilitate the discussion with participants.

This event will be one of over 250 town halls taking place in churches, classrooms, and union halls across the country for the Road to a Green New Deal tour this spring as part of the Sunrise movement to stop climate change and create millions of good jobs in the process. We’re building an army of young and old to make climate change an urgent priority across America, end the corrupting influence of fossil fuel executives on our politics, and elect leaders who stand up for the health and wellbeing of all people.

The Green New Deal is a 10-year plan to mobilize every aspect of American society to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions and create economic prosperity for all. In November and December, 45 Representatives backed Ocasio-Cortez’s call for a Select Committee on a Green New Deal. Over 300 local and state politicians have called for a Federal Green New Deal. This spring, Sunrise is organizing in every corner of the country to build support to get thousands more organizations and politicians signed onto the Green New Deal.

Please mark your calendar for our next Area 1 Democratic Party meeting. This is a terrific opportunity for you to invite friends to attend our informative meeting.

State Attorney Satz has implemented programs to change with these tumultuous times. His office bears witness to the lack of common sense gun laws and mental health programs. Mr. Satz has always done his part to ensure our safety.
