Attention 3rd - 8th Grade Parents: Testing Guidelines

Good evening Kuumba families,

Tomorrow marks the beginning of state tests for some of our students. Because of this, we would like to take a moment to go over the testing guidelines that Kuumba Academy follows under the State of Delaware DeSSA rules.

From goal-setting conferences to decorating teacher doors with encouraging testing messages, everyone has put in the work and we are prepared for success on these important tests.  Not to mention, Spring Break couldn't have come at a better time!  Students seem rejuvenated and ready to reach their goals.

Testing will begin on Tuesday, April 30th.  The school has worked hard to create a schedule in which all students only test in the morning and no student takes a test two days in a row.  We do not want the students to feel stressed or overwhelmed by the required assessments and we want them to be engaged in meaningful learning tasks each day.  Because of this, it will take a little over two weeks for all of the students in grades 3-4 to be completely done with state testing.  Please see the attached reminders and guidelines and procedures pages to further communicate testing expectations with your child.  Teachers will also be using time on Monday to finish preparing their classrooms to begin testing.

Below are a few of the guidelines for all testing classrooms for both teachers and students to follow.  Cellphones are not permitted inside of any testing classrooms.  Having a cell phone in a testing environment breaches the testing security and violates both school and state policy.

Thank you for continuing to partner with us through out the year.   Please remember a good night sleep and sufficient breakfast also does wonders with keeping focus during testing.  Have a great day!  We will celebrate all of our student accomplishments at both our Umoja Festival (May  and our first trip to Cape Henlopen State Park and Beach (June 4th)

Sample Guidelines:

  1. Students may bring in a quiet snack and bottled water (School will provide small water bottle and mints)
  2. No cell phones!
  3. Quiet testing environment at all times
  4. Bring a book/magazine, reading material for when testing is completed

Thank you for your support in motivating and encouraging the students to do their very best on the test!
