Public Meeting: Zoning By-Law Amendment
for Proposed Development at Ferry & Stanley
A public meeting was conducted at Tuesday's Council meeting on a proposed 7-storey mixed use building at Ferry Street, Allendale Avenue and Stanley Avenue. Public Meeting: 2019 Development Charges Study
The City must pass a new Development Charges By-Law before the current by-law expires in July, in order to continue to collect development charges. Council voted to receive the presentation delivered by Jackie Hall of Hemson Consultants at Tuesday's Council meeting. Click on the image above to view the presentation.

Fire Station No. 7  Staffing Service Review
Growth in residential housing, tourism and population demographics has precipitated the construction of a seventh fire station in the west end of the City. Council passed a motion requesting a follow-up report to the Niagara Falls Fire Department's Fire Station and Staffing Service Review which was presented at Tuesday's meeting, along with a presentation from consulting firm, Emergency Management & Training Inc.  Council asked for additional information on how and when the recommendations will be implemented.

Chair-A-Van Update
The St. John Ambulance Operating Fee for Service Agreement and Staff recommendation to establish an Appeal Committee were approved at Tuesday's Council Meeting. Manager of Transit Operations, Carla Stout, discussed new transit initiatives. Councillor Lococo put forward a successful motion challenging her fellow councillors to ride the bus this month.

The 2019 Parking Budget was approved at Tuesday's Council meeting following a presentation on the Parking Budget revenues, expenses, initiatives and rate strategy plan.

2019 Water and Wastewater Budget
The 2019 Water and Wastewater Budget was approved at Tuesday's Council Meeting.

2019 Water and Sewer Policies
To provide consistent customer service to residents, eight new Water and Sewer policies were presented to Council at Tuesday's meeting. Council directed that the Water/Sewer Collection Policy (700.23, Option 1) be approved and for staff to come back with a report to explore other collections options. All seven additional policies were also approved.

Congratulations, Champs!
Earlier this year, the Niagara Falls Flyers Novice AA team won the 2019 OMHA Championship in a harrowing victory. Mayor Diodati recounted the team's victory and presented special plaques and posed for photos with each of the players. Coach Brandon Boone expressed his appreciation to the team and thanked Council for recognizing their achievement.

Celebrated annually since 2000 by Ontario's 700+ museums, galleries and heritage sites to highlight the importance of the role of museums as institutions that serve society and its development. The month coincides with International Museum Day on May 18th.

Volunteer Recognition: The Soup Kitchen
Niagara Falls Community Outreach will host a Volunteer Appreciation event on Wednesday, May 22 at the Gale Centre. The charity organization relies on over 300 volunteers to operate the Soup Kitchen on St. Lawrence Avenue which provides year-round service to our community. For more information about the event and opportunities to help, visit nfcommunityoutreach.org.

Resolution: NPCA Board Staffing
Council adopted the NPCA's resolution No. 113-19, which extends the terms of its twelve temporary members and directs its Board and Staff to recommend a list of competencies to the Region of Niagara in consideration of future appointments.
