2019 IRIS SUMMIT

ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN

The Institute for Research on Innovation and Science (IRIS) is hosting its first-ever integrated IRIS Summit, featuring discussions on data, policy, and research. The free event is open to all with an interest in using administrative data to better understand, explain, and improve higher education.

Sessions will focus on:
  • data products that tell the story of academia's public value
  • research questions
  • using and improving the IRIS data infrastructure.
We seek to grow and nurture the community of IRIS data providers and users to contribute to the national conversation. Make your voice heard!

Agenda
Look for more details in the coming months regarding the Summit agenda and other special updates. If you have an idea for a session at this year’s Summit, please share your thoughts with IRIS Managing Director Nancy Calvin-Naylor at nbirk@umich.edu. We’d be happy to talk with you!

Registration and Travel
There is no registration cost associated with the Summit but for planning purposes we ask that you register as early as possible. In addition, we urge you to make your lodging arrangements as soon as possible. We are holding blocks of rooms at several local hotels but these will book quickly. Keep in mind that fall in Ann Arbor means football, and lodging can be difficult to obtain at the last minute. See https://iris.isr.umich.edu/iris-summit/ for more details about lodging and transportation.

Pre-Summit Events
We’ll be hosting several pre-Summit meetings on September 25, including the Technical Advisory Group (TAG), the Policy and Outreach Committee (POC), and the IRIS Board of Directors. Members of those groups will receive a separate communication from us.
We are collecting 200-300 word abstracts for potential inclusion at the Summit, either via 60-minute presentations or 15-minute lightning talks.

Proposals should do one or more of the following:
  • Showcase current research using IRIS UMETRICS data and future directions (both preliminary results and published analyses are welcome)
  • Share best practices and lessons learned working with IRIS UMETRICS data
  • Propose solutions to community-wide issues
Works in progress are welcome.
