Happy May Day

May 2019

Happy May Day to all! What is you favorite May Day memories? I do remember dancing around a maypole and making tissue flower bouquets to leave on doorsteps, ringing the bell and running away when we lived in Ohio. Once we came out west that tradition for our family ended I think because no one here really knew about it.

Some where along the way it became all about workers rights and protests. I do think it sad that a simple idea had evolved to a political one. I think I'll just go see if I can take some flowers over to my mom's, place them on the porch, ring the bell and run away.

Tucson Doll Show Report

After 3.5 years of no show in Tucson or southern Arizona, I decided to go ahead try it again. Although I had a late start with the idea and many other doll events conflicting, I was amazed at the crowd that came. Don't get me wrong, the event did not go off without a challenge or two but it really was so nice to see some of the people again after all this time not to mention hearing everyone say how much they appreciated the show.

It made  me realize how important it was to our doll/bear community that we make every effort to continue on with the show. Not just for the business aspect but for the simple enjoyment of the love and knowledge of dolls. My granddaughter, Emily, age 5, dressed up as a fairy princess following the theme of the event "Secret Fairy Garden" and acted as a hostess, going around the show and charming most everyone. Without this opportunity, she would not had a chance to see so many different and interesting dolls! I do hope I can continue on for at least a few more years and hopefully see many more children at them in the future.

The Age of the Teen

Posted April 29th, 2019 in Dolls

by Ruby Lane

Living in today’s world where the vast majority of product advertising is aimed at a teen driven market, it is sometimes hard to remember that it has been less than 100 years since “teen age” became a distinct chapter of life. Before the early decades of the 20th century, there was no such phase. Children were children until they were old enough to work or move into marriage. Their futures were determined largely by the adults in their lives and they moved from childhood to adulthood in quick succession.
