The Intersection of Church and State

Sunday Mornings @ 9 am

Join us for a Bible Study on “The Intersection of Church and State”, a study produced by Lutheran Hour Ministries. About: Religious freedom in America has been an issue of paramount importance since the founding of this great nation. As the nation has grown and changed, so has the relationship of the federal government with the many religions that comprise the community of faith throughout the land. This Bible study examines this vital relationship to see what’s working well and how we can improve the rough spots at the intersection of church and state.

Love Letters
Sunday, May 5th after Church

Once a month, we write “Love Letters” to a member of the congregation or someone in need. See Crystal Dirks after the service to write a word of encouragement.

Wine Tasting Event
Wednesday, May 15th from 7 pm to 9 pm

Chris and Peg Cordua will open their Encinitas home to a Wine Tasting event on Wednesday, May 15th from 7 pm to 9 pm. The event will be to blind taste a selection of white and red wines.  Guiding attendees through the tasting will be our multi-talented Worship Arts Director and Worship Leader, Rich Cook.

Rich has been writing about wine since 2008. His wine reviews currently appear on winereviewonline.com, an internationally renowned wine website, and his reviews are featured on several prominent winery websites as well. His own website, RichCookOnWine.com, is currently under construction.

This event is free, but is limited to six St. Mark members and their guest (either single or couple) with a few positions still available. Participating members are also asked to bring one side dish to help us clear our pallets between tastings. To sign up for this event, please contact Chris Cordua by either text (619.298.1010) or email (ccordua@directivity.net).  We look forward to seeing participants on the evening of May 15th.

Community Resource Center (CRC) Clean-up
Sunday, May 19th @ 12:30 pm

On Sunday, May 19th from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm volunteers from St. Mark will clean up the interior and exterior of the Encinitas Center and check expiration dates of food on the shelves in the food store. We have applied for and received approval for a Thrivent Action Team to support this event. It will provide “Live Generously” tee shirts, snacks and cleaning supplies. Last year we had good family participation in this very worthwhile service event and the CRC was most appreciative of our efforts. No monetary donations are required, just bring your enthusiasm. A sign-up sheet with more details will be available in May. Dave Kendall is the event Sponsor. Please contact Dave at aekdck@roadrunner.com for information.
