We are very proud to announce that we are now approved Australian Made Licensees! You will start to see the above logo on our approved ranges including our very popular 4ply Waratah and 8 ply Acacia bases.

What makes alpaca yarn true alpaca yarn?

Alpaca yarn that is not alpaca yarn? Is there such a thing?

Yarn sold as 'alpaca yarn' that is labelled as 10% alpaca and 90% merino or 15% alpaca and 85% merino is not alpaca yarn. It is merino yarn with a hint of alpaca. We feel that yarn labelling and advertising is very important so customers know what they are purchasing.

All our alpaca yarn is just that alpaca yarn! Premium alpaca yarn that is gentle on the skin, super soft and wonderful to work with! Yes we do have blends with merino, silk and recently a very yummy corriedale blend (coming soon) but at the core of our yarns is alpaca, making up the majority percentage of the blend.

We are alpaca farmers - all the fibre grown by our alpacas, on our farm, goes into our yarn bases, along with fibre sourced from other alpaca breeders in NSW. We are very proud of our NSW grown and processed yarn bases and very proud to say our alpaca yarn is just that.....alpaca yarn!

Message from our CEO (aka our llama Canyon)

Hello,

Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Canyon, the self appointed CEO of Blackwattle Yarn and Fibre, and my human, Angela, loves me to bits!

I came to live on the farm last year. I am still only a baby llama (12 months old) but I tower over Angela. Don't tell her that I told you guys but she is short (short but sweet!).

I love humans and having my photo taken - every side is a good side to take a photo of me. Yes I am handsome and yes I know it!!

Angela has been working hard on some new limited edition colours for the Bus Depot Markets. I see her working hard in the farm shed when I am waiting patiently (well sometimes not so patiently) for my breakfast! I don't know much about colours, being a llama and all, but I think her new colours look nice. If you have time, pop in and visit the Blackwattle stand at the Bus Depot Markets - Wool Expo, on the 18th and 19th May. I'm sure Angela would like to show you her new colours.

Farm Tours

Want to visit our alpaca farm and see the future yarn growing?

We offer a range of tours which allows you to take guided walks through our main farm paddock, visit and hand feed the alpacas, walk an alpaca and take lots of photos.

Fibre with Friends Retreat

We still have tickets available for our on farm Fibre with Friends Retreat – 21st and 22nd September 2019.

It is a 2 day, 5 star ‘on-farm alpaca experience’, being held on our farm “One Tree Hill”, Murrumbateman, NSW. Friends, new and old, getting together to celebrate all things alpaca and for those passionate about fibre, art and crafting. The two day retreat will be full of all things alpaca with lots of wonderful classes and very knowledgeable teachers!

The weekend includes:

4 workshops for each person (2 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday)
Saturday and Sunday – morning and afternoon teas, lunches (sit down chef catered lunch), tea and coffee all day
Saturday night – 2 course, chef catered, dinner and drinks (on-farm)
Alpaca Fibre and Yarn Discussion Panel (Saturday afternoon before dinner)
gift bag with lots of local goodies valued at over $200
10% off the Blackwattle labelled yarn and fibre from the Farm Shop over the weekend
Retail Hub – designer products for sale and information displays
meet and greet the alpacas and take a few for walk

Participants will be able to choose from a wonderful range of workshops, and there will be lots of choose from. The retreat fee $940 covers everything (excluding transport and accommodation). It covers all meals, drinks and all workshops. There are no additional costs for any of the workshops; the only thing that attendees need to bring is their favourite crochet hooks and knitting needles. All supplies for the workshops will be provided.

Surprise!!!

As mentioned in the previous newsletter we have a little surprise planned for one lucky person attending the retreat.....

We have recently had lots of new crias born on the farm. One lucky person will get naming rights for a little boy! That's right - naming rights for one of our new crias!
