The FTA Portal is a great resource to find out about tariffs and market access rules for exports to our FTA partner countries.  You can quickly find out the relevant information for your specific product.  Hint: It is useful to have the exact HS code as this increases the accuracy of the information provided.

China Customs (GACC) Beijing Stricter Rules in Relation to Original Documentation Both Digitally Sent and Accompanying Consignments

Under enforcement, Freight Forwarders could now be required to open marked cartons to place the original Airway bill inside to conform with GACC Beijing’s regulations. The Seafood Trade Advisory Group sought advice from the Department of Home Affairs to find out if this could affect requirements under the Known Consignor Scheme. Sea Cucumber Price in China to Remain High Due to Gloomy Production

Last summer Sea Cucumber production in Dalian City northeast China suffered from high mortality because of summer heat. This year, being concerned of the summer heat will return, farmers are reluctant to invest in Sea Cucumber. It is expected that the total spring season production this year will account for only 30%~40% of that last year, and the price will continue to be high. Emerging Chinese Markets for Functional Seafood

The ‘Healthy China 2030’ Plan by the Chinese government emphasized the research on functional food, and release of diet guidelines suitable for different consumer groups, such as children, pregnant women and elderly people. Since China carried out the new two-child policy, there have been emerging markets for functional seafood products. Brands of functional foods are being rolled out by seafood companies. Research projects in functional seafood and bioactive substances in marine life are also being launched by academies.

Chinese Authorities Approve a New Cultured Abalone Variety – Lupan Abalone

A total of 14 new cultured aquatic varieties, including a new cultured abalone variety – Lupan Abalone, have passed the appraisal by the China National Appraisal Committee of Aquatic Protospecies and Improved Varieties. The Lupan Abalone is considered an alternative abalone variety to solve the problem of high summer mortality in the culture of Haliotis discus hannai in southern China. Produced in Lianjiang County southeast China, it can grow to approximately 500 g, which is larger than the human palm.

China’s E-commerce Players Look to Smaller Cities to Help Drive Consumption and Growth

According to Robin Xing, Morgan Stanley’s chief China economist “Lower-tier cities will be bigger, wealthier, and more eager to spend, and could contribute two-thirds of incremental growth in national private consumption toward 2030”. As such, e-commerce players such as Alibaba, JD.com, Pingduoduo and Vipshop are expanding to China’s smaller cities.

Xiaohongshu (RED), is currently one of China’s fastest-growing e-commerce platforms. It achieved over 100 million RMB of sales revenue in only two hours when the company held a shopping festival for its 4th anniversary in 2018.

Founded in 2013, Xiaohongshu has developed from an app to a shopping and lifestyle sharing platform.  It expanded from the fashion and beauty industry to other industries during the last five years. Recent Trends and Cases of Smuggling Crimes in China

The numbers and values of smuggling crimes that Guangdong province have seized in 2018 has been reviewed on Guangdong province's anti-smuggling Work Conference and the cases of smuggling frozen goods in 2019 has been released by Guangdong Customs. In addition, the White Paper on Combating Smuggling Crimes (2018) has been released by the third branch of Shanghai Procuratorate, identifying and analysing some trends of smuggling crimes such as using the cross-border e-commerce platform as a new criminal approach for smuggling.
