The Activate Parramatta campaign around the Bankwest Stadium is well underway!
Businesses in and around the Parramatta CBD noticed a real vibrancy around game days. There are two more games in May, three June games and a July game included in this activation campaign that businesses can still get on board with.

This month’s featured business is Posy & Twine Florists. Business Advisor Sara Berry has helped Penny and Katherine create local awareness around being an ‘earth-friendly’ florist.

The first session of the Parramatta Restaurateurs Collaborative kicks off on June 4 at Bay Vista Dessert Bar and Café at 2:30pm. The aim of this collaborative is to help the Dining Precinct raise its profile and provide a halo effect on Parramatta and surrounds.

Whether in food and beverage, retail or professional services, Realise Business Advisor Sara Berry, explains how you can empower your customers and clients to ‘speak’ on your behalf by creating intentional ‘peak moments.’

Scroll down for an update on the progress of the Riverside Powerhouse Precinct Design and to discover who invented the milk bar culture in Australia and beyond.

Update on the Bankwest Stadium Game-Goers Activation

Many venues put effort into marketing their game-goers special offer through their own marketing channels including websites, Facebook and Instagram. The Do Something on Eat Street Parramatta decals were displayed at their entrances and printed restaurant guides were handed out at Parramatta Station and near the Stadium on game days. Press ads ran in a variety of local newspapers and the www.activateparramatta.com.au website was launched and promoted across these platforms.

Posy & Twine Florists Earth-Friendly Focus

Penny Redmond and Katherine Owens brought 30 years of passion and extensive experience in wedding floristry to Posy & Twine Florist when they opened in Telopea in April this year.

Their ambitious vision was to offer an earth-friendly focus through their style, products and techniques by removing the unnecessary plastics in floristry. In keeping with this ethos, their flowers are sourced locally or from elsewhere within Australia.

The benefit of this approach is threefold: improved longevity of local flowers which have not suffered importation and fumigation; minimisation of their environmental footprint and support of the local economy.

Posy & Twine’s signature wrappings are recyclable or compostable including the non-plastic bags used to keep the flowers fresh. No conventional design cardboard boxes, cellophane, plastic containers or toxic floral foam are used. Instead you will find lush floral posies and vase arrangements with an abundance of texture which artfully combine fresh and dried seasonal blooms.

The First Parramatta Restaurateur’s Collaborative

What is a Collaborative?
Collaborative (definition): A cluster of like-minded individuals who have shared commercial, marketing, leadership, development or cause goals; who choose to work proactively together as equals, showing mutual respect; and pool their resources (be those skills, ideas, money, energy) to make those goals a reality for the good of the whole.

Our Business Advisors have discovered Parramatta’s dining precinct business owners have a strong desire to form a marketing collaborative. In fact, in face to face surveys of 32 owners since December 2018, 90% indicated this was either highly or moderately valuable as an initiative that will help lift the profile of Parramatta as a ‘go-to’ destination.

How to create brand awareness and sales through social media shares, reviews and word of mouth

Did you know that:
  • 92% of consumers trust recommendations from friends and family more than any other form of advertising?
  • 20% to 50% of purchases are the result of a word-of-mouth recommendation?
  • Only 10% of consumers trust brands?
  • 70% of consumers read online customer reviews when considering a brand?
  • 81% of consumers are influenced by their friends’ social media posts?
Source: Lithium and AdAge

What this means is that in the digital age of the ‘always on,’ ‘connected customer’, your customers should form an integral part of your marketing strategy.  People buy from businesses that they know, like and trust; and from businesses that are referred to them by their friends. People trust other people and as a business owner you should tap into the power of both online and offline word of mouth referrals.

Your customers can be your marketing foot soldiers. Human driven marketing which consists of internet reviews, word of mouth referrals, peer recommendations and social media conversations form a large part of today’s marketing. How do you get your customers to market you? Simple. Give them a reason to rave about your offering and service.

Update on the New Parramatta Riverside Powerhouse Precinct Design

The Minister for the Arts, Don Harwin has recently announced the six global architect teams shortlisted to develop designs for an iconic new Powerhouse Precinct at Parramatta.
You can read updates on the progress of the Powerhouse project at the MAAS website here. Architects from UK, Brazil, USA, Italy and France have teamed with an Australian architect to submit designs. One team is comprised of two Australian architects.

Who Invented the Milk Bar?

Did you know that we have Greek migrant, Mick Adams (nee Joachim Tavlarides) to thank for Australia’s milk bar culture? Mick opened the first Black & White 4d Greek galaktopoleio (milk shop) in Sydney 86 years ago. The idea was to drink at the bar or take the milkshake away with you, thus the revolutionary development of ‘takeaway’ started at that time. The concept soon spread to New Zealand, South Africa, some South Pacific islands, Great Britain, and Europe.

Lakis Koumpridis has recently launched the Little Greece Frappé Bar, a decidedly more colourful interpretation of this tradition. Lovingly handcrafted by Lucas, Frappé Prince, you can enjoy typical café fare – coffee (Greek too), tea, chai and matcha, as well as milk and thick shakes, fresh fruit juice, dairy and non-dairy-based frappés. There is a well-curated and healthy range of grab and go fresh fruit, fruit salads, banana bread, wraps, sandwiches, croissants and burgers. A real bonus is the ‘charge’ bar. In the interests of multi-tasking, you can charge your ‘body battery’ and your device battery at the same time!
