LAKER GLOW IS A GREAT TIME!

Some participants from the 2018 Laker Glow

In a little more than a week MPS will be the site of one of the most fun nights of the year. The Laker Glow 5K on May 11 is a community event for people of all ages that raises money for MPS scholarships. There is truly something for everyone, including runners, walkers, and even those who don’t particularly care for either!

The party starts at 6 p.m. as participants gather at MPS.  If you’d like, you can get your glow on with glow face paint, glow jewelry, and music.  Procrastinators can register right up to the 7:30 start of the race.

Events include a 5K race, 5K 3-person relay, 1 mile fun walk, and a .01K race that should take about ten seconds to complete!

Your $25 registration includes a race t-shirt (register soon to be guaranteed a shirt in your preferred size), a finisher medal, and a great party after with a Smith’s hot dog bar and refreshments. There will be awards for top finishers and for best glow wear, which is encouraged but not mandatory.

The general public can register online at mpslakers.com/lakerglow. MPS students pay only $20 and should register with Michelle Intrieri in the admissions office.

Thank you to our main sponsors Allegheny Health Network/St. Vincent, Mercyhurst University, and UPMC Health Plan.

Thank you also to PNC Bank and our Media sponsors Jet TV24/Fox 66/YourErie.com, Classy 100, and Lamar Advertising.  We will see you on May 11!
NEW UNIFORM PROVIDER

MPS uniforms have undergone a few updates and will now be ordered through Schoolbelles.  The new vendor is based out of Cleveland, Ohio, and has stores located there and in Pittsburgh.  Here is a link to their website https://www.schoolbelles.com.  Please note that Schoolbelles will be at MPS for uniform fittings on Wednesday, June 5, 1:30—6:30 p.m. Be sure to check your email for a letter that provides more information regarding uniforms.

ART PROJECT VOLUNTEERS

Seniors Yeshim Onipede, Claire Johnson, and Lauren Stroupe
spent a couple of weekends helping to move stones and set the wall interior.

A group of senior soccer girls volunteered to work on a community art project with Dr. Jamie Borowicz on 19th Street in Erie. The Sisters of Saint Joseph have commissioned Dr. Borowicz to create a stone sculpture as part of a garden/community play area. He has been working on the project for a couple of months.  The completed sculpture will be about 55 feet long and will serve as a bench, border, and walkway.
MPS CONNECTION

This past weekend was "The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber" concert at the Erie Playhouse. Four people with connections to MPS were represented ( l to r):  Ava Gardner '23, incoming freshman from Fairview, Brandon Vogt '06, Teresa Corso, MPS information technology instructor, and Curtis Jones III '14.   Curtis recently played the lead in Shakespeare in Love, and Brandon was Ché in Evita this season at the Erie Playhouse.
TEEN DRIVING COMPETITION

Seated l to r: Kevin Janosco and Gabe Gallagher; standing: Alexandra Palo

Seniors Gabriel Gallagher, Alexandra Palo, and Kevin Janosco placed second as a team in the Erie County Teen Driving Competition on April 29, competing with various high schools from around Erie County.  This event is hosted by the Erie County Health Department in an effort to promote safe driving.  Students had to complete a written test, driving perception test, inspect a vehicle for safety, and demonstrate their driving skills on an obstacle course.  They also had the opportunity to hear from law enforcement, truck drivers, and insurance agents about how to be responsible behind the wheel.  Congratulations to Gabe, Alex, and Kevin on their driving skills and representing MPS so well!
