2018-19 ASB Calendar PDF

2019-20 Calendar (DRAFT)
May 8, 2019

Dear Students, Families, Alumni, Parishioners, and Friends of ASB School,

May is the month we celebrate Mary, the Mother of Jesus.  Thank you to our 3A students for leading us in a beautiful May Crowning prayer service on Monday.  We crowned Mary with flowers and blessed all of the Mary statues that live in our classrooms.  Mary is the ultimate model of love, faith, and trust in the work God calls her to do.  May she be a model for all of us, this month and always.  I would also like to wish a very Happy Mother’s Day to all of the wonderful mothers in our community. Thank you for all you do – I hope you have the peaceful day you deserve!

Please keep our 8th graders in your prayers tomorrow as they head off to Camp Don Bosco for their final retreat.  This is a time filled with excitement, nervousness, and bittersweet emotion as they look forward to high school but also realize their time at ASB is winding down.

We know our graduates go on to be amazing success stories and I would like to congratulate some amazing young women in our community.  I received an email from Holy Names Academy this week that let me know of some incredible accomplishments on the part of our alums.  We are so proud of them!  Congratulations to:
  • Peyton Johnston is a Salutatorian for the HNA Class of 2019!

  • Kate Laboda was a runner-up for the Junior Academic Award, which was established and fully endowed 33 years ago by HNA parents. It is an achievement award that integrates the attributes of effort and attitude. Honorees must have a grade point average in the top 10% of their class after five semesters, a keen desire to learn, a willingness to share their knowledge and enthusiasm for subjects they study, and demonstrate a command of language and attention to detail in an original essay submitted for review by a faculty committee. Candidates for the Junior Academic Award were nominated by the entire faculty, and the top vote recipients were invited to apply for the award. Members of the Committee also had high praise for ASB alumna Kate Laboda. They frequently remarked on the ways in which she is a model of positivity. One teacher commented that: “she always has a smile on her face and participates often—and I appreciate that”. Another explained it this way: “she is one of the most phenomenal students I’ve ever taught. She is brilliant, loves learning, has a great attitude, and elevates the environment of the classroom.”

  • Emily Flora was accepted to Chapman University and has committed to their softball team!

  • Lucy Klebeck was accepted to Gonzaga University and has committed to their cross country & track teams!

Today, Seattle celebrates Give Big!  If you would like to make a donation to our 2018-2019 Annual Fund, please click here.  Thank you for all you do to support ASB!

As many of you have seen, lice have found a home on the heads of many of our students.  Please check all of your children regularly.  Hair should be wet when checked and you should be using a lice comb.  The most critical piece of combating lice is treating your home.  Please see this letter for directions on how to ensure your home is lice-free.  Thank you for your help with this.

Finally, I am excited to announce that we will be having a Groundbreaking Ceremony for construction on Wednesday, June 12th from 6:00-8:00 PM.  Join us as we see the first shovels go into the ground, then head to the gym for snacks, drinks, and good conversation.  We will even be offering tours of the school to alumni and alumni families as they get a final look before construction begins!

Happy Mother’s Day and enjoy the AMAZING weather!

Best,
Kathleen Conklin
