Dear Readers,

This month we have the annual STC Summit being held in Denver, Colorado. It was at my first Summit a few years ago that I decided to get involved with our local chapter. There is nothing better than meeting, collaborating, and learning with other professionals in the technical communication field. I always leave Summit inspired and motivated.

This year, I will be taking over our social media accounts during the conference, so be sure to follow @STCLoneStar on Twitter and check out our Facebook page for updates from the conference.

We also have our first live meeting of the year on May 21st presented by our first and second vice presidents Esther Asham and Zohra Mutabanna titled “Demystifying Agile: How Can I Derive Value?” Whether you are a seasoned pro or new to Agile, I think you will get something from the presentation. I'm looking forward to seeing you all there!

Best Regards,

Lacey Corbin
NTLSC President

Summit Ride and Room Sharing

Need a room and/or ride for the STC Summit?

If you are interested in sharing a hotel room and/or a ride from the airport to the Hyatt hotel/convention center Saturday (or back to the airport on Wednesday), contact Celeste. Sharing a room and/or ride is safer and a great way to keep costs down!

Writers in the Agile World

As technical communicators we strive to stay abreast of changing technologies whether in the tools we use or the environments where we work. This month, as we dive deeper into Agile, we will learn how Agile stretches our responsibilities to overlap with and become similar to other product owners and scrum masters. Oh, wait, what is a product owner and what do scrum masters do? To learn more, read Agile Technical Writing Basics and How to manage agile and waterfall together.

In a nutshell, writing in an Agile world produces more customer-centric documentation.

Curious?

Agile is not only a methodology, but also a culture. Ever wondered where Agile came from, who uses it, and what value it brings? We invite you to meet the man behind it, Jeff Sutherland, father of Scrum (Agile) development, and discover what brought it into existence.
