Dear Rosemount High Community Members and Parents,

With Prom and graduation approaching, a large partnering effort is underway to be proactive in delivering a powerful and compelling message to our students.  The message is simple: Don’t drink and drive and don’t text and drive.

In an effort to send a strong message to our students, we have planned several activities.  On Monday, May 13, 2019, from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m., we will present a dramatic Car Crash Simulation in our north parking lot.  This presentation will be for juniors and seniors only.  Dakota County law enforcement and emergency personnel, along with other important local community businesses and members work together in a coordinated effort to provide this simulation for our students:

Rosemount High School Site Council White Funeral Home
Savvi Formal Wear AAA Auto Salvage/U-Pull-R Parts
Rosemount Floral City of Rosemount Public Works Department
Rosemount Police Department City of Rosemount Communications Director
Minnesota Highway Patrol Dakota County Attorney
Rosemount Fire Department Dakota County Community Relations Director
Rosemount Fire Explorers Minnesota Chapter of MADD
Health East Ambulance AAA Minnesota - Teen Driver Safety Grant
North AirCare Helicopter Emergency Services

At the same time, we will be presenting to 9th and 10th grade students an anti-drinking/driving and anti-texting and driving program in the high school gymnasium.  This program features a keynote speaker discussing the death of his 12th grade daughter who rear-ended a stopped school bus while texting and driving, detailed stories from speakers who have lost family members, and images of a college student who was burned over 90% of her body as the result of a drunk driver striking her vehicle.

While these modalities combine to make the program effective, the content may be strong for some individuals.  Should you feel that your son or daughter may be negatively affected by this program, please contact the Guidance Office (651-423-7517) so that we may provide an alternative activity for your child.

Important – To accommodate the Car Crash Simulation and for student safety, on Monday, May 13, 2019 no through traffic will be allowed on 142nd Street from 8:00 – 11:00 a.m.  The 142nd Street school entrance will be closed to the east at Highway 3 and to the west at the intersection of 143rd Street and Chili Avenue.  In addition, students will not be permitted to enter or exit campus during this time.  We apologize for this inconvenience, but thank you in advance for scheduling appointments, etc. around this activity.

In case of inclement weather, an activity will be held for all students utilizing classrooms and the gymnasium. If you are interested in more information, or if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time.
