Dear Ones…
We have five more editions of Little Things during Eastertide before Pentecost Sunday arrives. As I marvel at all of the ways, big and small, that our parish is reclaiming our power, energy and identity as the abundant, joyful and called body of the resurrected Christ… just let that sink in… I think that it might be good and right to revisit our Christian charter and road map: The Baptismal Covenant.
This month, the Cathedral will be filled with a whole new crop of teenagers and adults who wish to confirm or reaffirm their faith, as it is professed in the Baptismal Covenant, in the presence of God, Bishop, clergy, family and friends. Eastertide, our great fifty day feast, has been set aside by the faithful for ages upon ages to anoint new Christians through the waters of Baptism, confirm those who want to own the vows made on their behalf when they were young, receive those prodigal sons and daughters who wandered away from their faith and have returned and met with a feast, as well as those who have decided to stake their claim in the Episcopal expression of the Christian faith after having been confirmed in another denomination. What better time for a faith community that is experiencing great growth and rebirth to revisit and recommit ourselves and parish to God and one another through the covenant made with us through the waters of Baptism?
So… for the next five weeks, I will offer my own reflection on each of the five covenantal questions that follow the Apostle’s Creed. I would love for you to join me in this! For those who would like to offer their own reflections, thoughts or questions each week, please go to our Facebook page where you will find my reflection. Add yours to the comments and we’ll be able to discuss, wrestle and discern as a faith community should…together.
Lastly, it has been an honor and a privilege to supervise and serve alongside the Rev. Melesa Skoglund. Her presence at Saint David’s before my arrival in 2017 was such a gift… knowing that there was already a faithful, competent and gifted seminarian here to share ministry with! It only got better for me personally, getting to walk the journey of pregnancy, birth and motherhood with her – something that most women clergy do not get to experience very often. To Melesa, Erik and Truett – thank you. We will miss you but send you into your new adventure with love, prayers and every blessing. Saint Andrew's, Madison, is one lucky parish!
Happy Easter, dear friends and keep the feast!
With love and gratitude,
Kristen

A Message from The Rev. Melesa Skoglund

Friends,
What a joy and privilege it has been to spend these last two years with you! It is with gratitude that I reflect on and remember the various ways in which this parish - you all - have opened your arms and hearts to me and my family. Thank you for allowing me to grow and learn with you all during these years of seminary. Our time together has shaped and informed how I will minister and lead as a priest in future ministry, and St. David’s will continue to hold a special place in my heart. Please keep us in your prayers as we move to Madison, Wisconsin, and as I begin my ministry as a priest.
I look forward to celebrating and being together this Sunday!
With deep gratitude and love,
Melesa Skoglund
