The preparations came together in the nick of time. It seems to be the same every year. When you close for a season and reopen the work seems insurmountable at times. You are drowning in boxes in the market as the stock arrives and each box needs to be opened, counted and priced for sale. And then the challenge begins to fit it all together to create a beautiful picture like a 10,000-piece puzzle! What will go with what? How can we keep the aisles wide enough and the traffic flow well for customers? Where will all those precious jars of jams, syrups and savoury treats fit that we have been producing all winter. It is a challenging job, but in a way, my favourite job. I love creating displays with all the wonderful treasures Lorraine and I find at the gift shows in January. Joyce, Tom’s sister was a huge help and absolutely necessary in the process–unpacking boxes and helping with the displays and setup.

After opening, the work in the fields picks up big time! The plants have been growing in the Greenhouse and hopefully soon we be able to plant them. It is a cooler, later season so far, so lots of work in the fields yet to prepare for planting. From preparing the soil, to organizing the irrigation and the actual job of transferring the plants. We plant over 30,000 bedding plants including sweet onions, tomatoes, peppers, melons and more!

After opening, comes Mother’s Day. We are hosting blossom tours on the weekend and our annual Mother’s Day Picnic in the Orchard on Sunday, May 12th. Your registration includes a pre-packed picnic for your family and a tour through the orchard to enjoy the glory of springtime on the farm. All you need to bring is a picnic blanket, we look after all the other details for you! Registration closes at 4:00pm on Friday, May 10th - details and registration at Mother’s Day Picnic. For many of you, getting a family photo has now become a tradition. We are offering FREE family photos with professional photographer, Sarah Rowat, on Sunday May 12th from 11:00am – 3:00pm. Mark your calendar and join us - no bookings required for photos.
